Rihanna has a new song with her boo Chris Brown called “Bad Girl”. I’m digging the production on this song, but I’m not totally feeling Rihanna’s singing. It is hard to understand what she is singing so she sounds a bit like she is squeeling. Perhaps the cd quality version will sound better. Chris Brown’s verse is so short that it is almost a let down and totally unnecessary. If they are going to do a duet then they need to go full scale with it. Anyway…this is a cool album track and maybe with some work it could be a cool single. Click here to listen

Watch: Mariah Carey- Hero 2009

Mariah Carey did a new recording of her classic “Hero” for an upcoming album “Ballads”. Hmmm…I’m so confused by this…who in the hell lied and told her this was a good idea? This new take sounds like a really bad karaoke version of her song. I’ve accused her of just flat out saying f*&k effort for the past year…but what if this really is her trying? This video and remake is a pointless, flat, and completely void of emotion. I think it might just be time to ask the question…is Mariah falling off?

What do you guys think of the remake? Upgrade or downgrade? Is Mariah falling off?

Watch: Bow Wow- Roc The Mic featuring Jermaine Dupri

Bow Wow has a new video for his first single off his 6th album called “Roc the Mic” featuring Jermaine Dupri. It is very rare that I say this but this song low key needs a “no homo” disclaimer. I know Bow and JD have a father/son relationship but there is something a little odd about this song. I’m surprised that someone thought a song about how Bow and JD fell out but are now back to being aces was a good choice for the first single. Perhaps they were going for the Kanye “Big Brother” feel, but the production on that song had much more of an edge to it whereas Bow Wow’s track sounds like it could be a love song. Anyway…I’m sure his fans will like this, but I say he needs to go back to the drawing board.

Watch: T-Pain- Freeze featuring Chris Brown

T-Pain has a new video for his song “Freeze” featuring Chris Brown. The vibe and look of the video is very similar to his other two videos so he doesn’t break any new ground…but it is very entertaining. I haven’t heard T-Pain’s album so this is my first time hearing “Freeze” and I really like it. It has a very pop feel to it and makes a great dance record. I think this record will turn a new set of ears onto his album since it is in a totally different vein than his first two much slower and R&B/Hip Hop singles.

What do you guys think of the video? Do you think this song is too pop or is it good for T-Pain to show more range in his singles?

Upgrade or Downgrade: Ciara Covers Beyonces Diva

Ciara flipped Beyonce’s “Diva” and before I even listen to it I already know it’s gonna be a downgrade…but just to be fair I’m going to listen to anyway. It’s funny how Beyonce clearly doesn’t even have to try hard when singing “Diva” but Ciara can barely pull off the chorus in her own version. I will still give Ciara a B- for effort. To take on Beyonce (even an incredibly easy song to sing) is ambitious and although she falls way short of making a bad ass anthem to compete with Bey she does a decent job. Watch: Wale- Nike Boots

So I know I’m super late on this, but better late than never…Wale has a video for his song “Nike Boots”. HM reader Ibra brought this cat to my attention and I have to say that I’m digging this. The production is hot, I like Wale’s flow for the most part even though at times he sounds awkward trying to stretch his lines to match the beat, and the song is really catchy. I’m a little surprised that I haven’t heard this out and about yet…but LA is always a few months late getting music from the east coast. I like, I like.

What do you guys think of this song? Have you heard of Wale before? Do you think he will be able to blow up on a larger scale?

Watch: Beyonce- Diva and Halo

Beyonce has a new video for her song “Diva”. Hmmm…I’m normally 100% Team Bey but she is just way too all over the place with this one. It’s interesting that instead of going for the obvious glamorous vibe with the video she went left and played up the more grimey “hustla” aspect of being a diva. However, the lighting and direction made the video seem a bit erratic and really took away the effectiveness of the choreography at times. Plus the whole walking at the beginning and especially the end was a little corny. We all know she has a killer walk but didn’t she do that opening in “Crazy In Love” already? Yes. Anyway…I love, love, love this song so even though I’m not feeling the video I’m just glad that she did something for it.

On the flip side Beyonce got up close and personal with Michael Ealy for her video “Halo”. I usually listen to the “Sasha Fierce” side and skip the slow songs so I totally forgot just how amazing this song is. The video is beautiful and Beyonce and Michael’s chemistry really brings the emotion and warmth behind the song to life. Now I see what Beyonce means when she said that songs like these are more reflective of who she really is, because she is noticeably more comfortable and authentic in this video than “Diva”. I’m shocked to be saying this but out of the two videos she premiered I can see myself watching this video a lot more. I’m going to have to put this song in my Ipod rotation. Get ready to see a lot more Beyonce, because these two videos will be getting a lot of rotation.

Listen: Jamie Foxx- Blame It On Remix feat. T-Pain and Yung Joc

Yung Joc hopped on Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It On” Remix featuring T-Pain. I love this song (the original version)…it’s definitely one of those “Buy You A Drank” type club bangers. I love how Jamie brings a light hearted comedic energy to his music and just has fun with it. I really like T-Pain’s verse on the track too. Hot track…Yung Joc didn’t kill the song so I won’t hate. Oh yeah and go cop that ”Intuition” that album is definitely in the top 5 (or 3) R&B albums this year. Click here listen

Watch: Plies- Want It Need It featuring Ashanti

Plies has a new song featuring Ashanti called “Want It, Need It”. I’m really not a Plies fan at all…but I decided to go on ahead and post the song anyway, since for some inexplicable reason he has quite a few fans. The song samples Babyface’s “Two Occasions” which is one of my fav Babyface tunes…but I’m not feeling what they did with it. Ashanti sounds a little weak on the song and doesn’t upgrade the song from D-List status…at least Ne-Yo was able to make “Bust It Baby” sound C+ List. Anyway…I could keep ragging on the song, but instead I’ll just say enjoy. Click here to listen
