Listen: Fantasia- Even Angels

Fantasia has a new song called “Even Angels”. I actually really like this song. The production has a very nice, almost pretty sound and Fantasia sounds great. She actually toned it down a bit and the subdued sound is definitely an upgrade. I think this song and this sound has a much broader appeal than the first single she choose for her last album so I expect that this will get more people to take notice of her once again. What do you guys think of the song? Will this be the song that puts Fantasia back on the map? Do you watch her VH1 show?

The song is nice, I like the lyrics and the overall vibe of the song.
It would be nice if this gets her to the top. I would definitely like to see a black AI winner that is successful. (J. Hud not counted, she didn’t win)

I wasn’t really sold on this song when I first heard it. But I liked it a lot more after seeing her perform it on Oprah.

Soda…I think you can classify Fantasia as successful…but she squandered away a lot of that with her lifestyle and mooching family. Landing a Broadway starring role in The Color Purple and having to albums is pretty laudable. But yeah J Hud definitely outshines Fantasia.

However I wouldn’t hold my breath on another Black AI winner. They only pick crappy ass/lame Black folks to get to the semi-finals so they know they won’t win. For the past 3 or more years in the Hollywood round the Black people who can really sing get eliminated and the ones who are mediocre make it through.

Now that you mentionit, you’re right Reecie, about AI and Fantasia.. Well I guess I just want her to have continued success, I like her voice and a good amount of her music, don’t yet know if I’m totally a fan, but she’s cool.
Other AI winners get attention and get covered on shows like ET (that cover mostly white celebs or soon to be celebs) which help their sometimes crappy music stay on rotation, and seeming successful.

I do realized no AI winning male had much success, white or black.

Soda…it does seem like the males have had a little bit less success than the women. I think part of that has to do with a lot of the men winners being a little “controversial”. For just about every guy who won AI the runner up was the favorite. Think about it…Ruben Studdard won and Clay Aiken was more successful. Taylor Hicks won and Katherine McPhee was more successful..and this year Kris Allen won and Adam Lambert was more successful.

I think Fantasia has the same problem that Keyshia had and that was being perceived as too ghetto. Being ghetto isn’t a bad thing when you are a rapper but it doesn’t let you break into the mainstream if you are a R&B singer. Every major R&B super star has had to class it up to take their career to the next level (Mary J is a perfect example of that).

  1. I like this and Fantasia puts out really SOLID albums. I think that she just had bad single choices. I like this song a lot and I’m sure she won’t disappoint. Musically wise I would say Fantasia is more successful than J.Hud. I think that J.Hud’s success would’ve never came if she didn’t play the role in Dreamgirls, which she did great.

I just hope that Fantasia has a company that really supports her and her music. She’s really talented and I like her. After she spoke on Oprah, I feel that she’s not so much ghetto, as to she just didn’t know. She was very well spoken on the show and gave a very down to earth interview. She gets a thumbs up for me.

I’m sitll waitting for Tamara Gray to make a come back. In all seriousness I find the conversation you guys are having about black American Idol interesting. I don’t keep up with Fantasia, but when I think of successful American Idol I do kind of count her as a successful American Idol story. Despite a few set back (nude photo leaking and not beng able to keep up with the demanding schedule for Broadway) she does seem to have some big support (Oprah) on her side. She is one of the few American Idol to have a few hit songs on the radio.

Am sorry but i just can not seem to notice HOMEWRECKER’S…..
it is so weird, but Oprah doesnot seem to want “certain individuals on her show…..certain rappers but she glady opens to arms to “homewreckers” go gladly take away men from their wife and poor children!!!

We all know that big lip Fantasia is far from being even re-motely attractive and if she did not have the money she has now, that man would not have even given her a second glance!!!

Interesting and different use of her voice,

I have watched her show a few times Reecie, it’s interesting seeing this other side of artists. I also watched Monica’s still standing, it changes my connection to the songs for sure.
Reality (or life-based) shows are turning into my guilty pleasure.

I just saw snippets and I’m going to have to check out the webshow Shoptalk webshow on BET too…

I forgot about the whole homewrecker thing. It didn’t really affect Britney Spears and Alicia Keys. I’m not sure what affect if any it will have on fantasia, ut it seems like everything I hear about her is negative.

Janelle I’ve never heard of Shoptalk what is that about?

JW, I totally forgot about the whole “homewrecking” thing with Fantasia. I think people tend to get away with it more as long as the wife isn’t more famous than the homewrecker. I definitely think it is wrong to steal somebody’s husband, but I’m not as quick to judge a situation I don’t know much about because things aren’t always as they appear. Wrong or right, sometimes both parties move on despite still being legally married and a new mate entering the situation shouldn’t be looked at as wrecking a happy home.

With Alicia Keys there are differing stories about whether she was a catalyst in Mashonda and Swizz Beatz breakup or she came after the fact. I tend to believe Mashonda’s side of the story more than Swizz so Alicia definitely seems hella suspect. However…the truth is karma is a b!tch and like the saying goes “you lose ‘em how you got ‘em”. If she gets married and gets knocked up she will be sweating bullets hoping that some new R&B sensation doesn’t come in swoop in her territory.

Anyway- collegechick…I totally agree with you that Fantasia musically is a LOT better. I didn’t find Jennifer Hudson’s music at all appealing. She has a better voice, but her music is way too adult contemporary. Being on Dreamgirls and Sex & The City definitely gave JHud a boost in her music career.

Stallion I wouldn’t hold my breath for Tamara Gray! lol

From what I read on BET, it is a show starring Malik Yoba, his son and regulars at a Brooklyn Barbershop and the different conversations men have in there.

It airs on Tuesdays at 3pm.

The current show I guess is one in which Malik’s son asks how he knows he’s officially become a man. The responses are interesting
