but after i saw this video on mtv, i thought, i can’t imagine there’s not a lot of controversy about it… just because it seems so dated and i couldn’t believe this stuff is still put out by artists, or at least artists of the sort who get big budgets for videos whom you might think would want to take a more nuanced approach….

anyway, i googled something like “drake controversy video best i ever had” and came across this blog post

after reading all the comments, i think there should be an anti-Image Awards to go to the people who have done the most to gratuitously damage the image of black people over the previous year…you could have different categories for movies; music; politics; business, etc… lifetime failure awards…

anyway, the video was definitely well-crafted, funny at points, and as a guy – i found it eminently watchable… on the other hand… it just kind of left me with a sick pit in my stomach… kind of a mix of pity for the situation being what it is and exhausted anger at mtv for broadcasting it… it would break my heart to be a father and to have my daughter watch the video… what could you say?… it’s one thing to explain a sex scene in a movie- not really a big deal… but another thing to explain that video…

But yeah having the camera focus on your bouncing boobs and flexibile moves isn’t’ a badge of honor either so it’s a lose lose for everyone involved.

JW- I did watch the first episode of Tiny & Toya and Tiny and they actually aren’t terrible. However, I just don’t find them interesting at all. I also didn’t like the whole “Let’s look for my crackhead mama then leave her wandering the streets” part of the first episode. It would be nice to for BET to showcase someone who is self made and who is doing something positive with their life for a change.

I love “So Far Gone” but Drake has the makings of a bust when he gets to the pros. And I hope he proves me wrong, but let’s review:

1. The horrible BET Awards performance
2. This horrible lead music video

This video will be Drake’s 1st introduce to potential consumers – ppl that actually BUY music, which still happens to be the measure of success these days – and so far…potential consumers think that this video is a square peg in a round hole.

He made a song for the ladies and created a video for the fellas. I don’t know how this slipped through quality control.

BTW – I agree with Fool’s Gold aka X – it may be a good thing that black women were not featured in the video. I can see black women saying “How come black women are only portray as sexual monsters in hip-hop?” I guess it’s a lose-lose for the rapper that wants to show “The Breast He Ever Had” bc its either “there are no black women” or “black women are portrayed as freaks.”

@Soda… and anyone else…I don’t understand how this song makes women respected…from the first time i listened to the song..I already knew what he was saying…she is the best sex he ever had and he can come back when he wants cause he knows she will be there..i mean he did package the song nicely..but what made me not like the song was how many people i saw blasting the song so hard and had no idea what he was talking about….im like..have u really sat down and listened to it? there is nothing uplifting about a woman in this song at all

Jamican woman gone wild! Drakes performance at the BET awards was bad I agree… however Drake tore his ACL, so he was forced to sit on the stool and rap.
