Watch: Drake- Best I Ever Had

Drake has released his new video for his song “Best I Ever Had”. Hmmm…ok I didn’t expect him to go the route of making a video that has absolutely nothing to do with the lyrics of the song, but perhaps he was trying to be tongue in cheek with the video. I’ll admit there were parts that made me chuckle a little bit, but overall I wasn’t terribly impressed. I’m sure he will disappoint a lot of fans out there since Black women got practically no love in this video. Clearly there was some sort of paper brown bag test going when casting for the sexy basketball players but no problem with dark skinned chicks when it came to casting the freakshow opposing team players. Sigh…oh well it’s a rap video so I’ll save my chagrin for something of real importance.

What do you guys think of the video?

    I see Weezy written all over this video. The song didn’t even need a video because it was mighty hot and even so this video downgrades the song in my book. However men will love it, never seen so much tits in one video. I don’t take offense to “freak show looking team” because if you pause the video and look at both teams its a mix of girls, it’s just that the green team is properly attired for the occasion.

    Anyway I was LMAO – “Take that ‘D’ like the champions you are” classic.

    People are angry. They are letting him know on his blog, both guys and girls. The songs makes women feel respected and the video goes the other way. I see what he (or Kanye) was trying to do. I kind of see the message but it is under a thick layer of large mammary tissue (big breast) and sexual inuendos.

    The fact the the team lost and they are still the best I think is the message. Anyone else doing this video would made their team win the game. His team didn’t win but they are still great in his eye. That is the idea, I think, but again it gets lost.

    omg i loooooove this video. so funny. lol

  1. Reecie I agree with you 100%. I normally wouldnt make a big deal about things like this..because its not like they play videos anymore anways. But this video was sooo far off the mark. Granted, it was funny. I chuckled a few times and it was good to see him show off his sense of humor. But that is where any positive sentiments end.

    The song is a GIRL’S ANTHEM. Yet, the video is blatantly for guys. It makes no sense. Just a few weeks ago Drake said that he wanted to capitalize on the fact that the song makes so many women feel special and he wanted to incorporate that into the video. But I can’t see it. After the embarrassment that was YM performance at the BET awards and this irrelevant video which was directed by Kanye..I’m starting to think that Drake needs to get out from behind the shadows of them because I dont think they’re leading him in the right direction or showcasing him in the proper light.

    *And yes, as a dark skinned woman I noticed our blatant exclusion.

    Like ive said befo Drake is sooo over-rated that words can not express how much!!!! After the mess he and Weezy performed at the B.E.T awards… you would have taught he would have opted for something better. Only hope and pray that Rihanna does not mix up herself with him, another low-down degrader of women!!!

    @t reecie: i watched the Tiny and Toya show on B.E.T and i have to say ive liked it so far. It shows that those two women are strong minded caring individuals and i think that people out their should give them a chance before writing them off!!! Tiny really has a soft spot and if that is how she really is, i can see why TI choose her to love her and be with her. Toya is a pretty woman and i personally think that Weezy would be better off with her instead of the groupie chicks he chooses to be with. Over-all, really liked the eposides ive watched so far and i hope that everyone out their will give this show a chance.

    PS; This show is nothing like that Kardashian bs of a show.

    You got to give it to him, he delivered on this music video. Afterall perhaps you don’ t remember… this song is called “You the FUCKIN’ best.” So… with a title like that how can you be mad at the sexual content of this music video?

    Jamican woman gone wild! Drakes performance at the BET awards was bad I agree… however Drake tore his ACL, so he was forced to sit on the stool and rap.

    Wow, I’m at work and started to watch the video but after the first scene I quickly realized the video was not going to be safe for work. I do agree though, that video isn’t the direction I expected someone to go with given the content of the song. I’ve never made a music video in my life so hey what do I know. I’m sure it’ll get him tons of youtube hits and maybe even a bit of controversy….ohhh now I get it.

  2. I don’t really get the big deal about this whole exclusion of dark skinned women thing. I feel like I don’t have ANYTHING to do with these men so I don’t care if no one if their videos looks like me. It’s not even like they’re portraying all of these women to be engineers and doctors. They’re stupid ’stretching’ women running around without any bras on and that ‘view’ of the video doesn’t really change from video to video. Now I do understand the other side to the argument where it can be seen as the rappers are saying black women aren’t beautiful so on and so forth but I guess I personally don’t care. If a rapper never portrays themselves as anything other than a drug dealing, womanizing, murderer *generalized statement* why would they portray anyone else positively.

    @Doug..lmao

    @Soda… and anyone else…I don’t understand how this song makes women respected…from the first time i listened to the song..I already knew what he was saying…she is the best sex he ever had and he can come back when he wants cause he knows she will be there..i mean he did package the song nicely..but what made me not like the song was how many people i saw blasting the song so hard and had no idea what he was talking about….im like..have u really sat down and listened to it? there is nothing uplifting about a woman in this song at all

    @jamaican woman..i agree..completely overrated

    LOL@Mr.O.

    I love “So Far Gone” but Drake has the makings of a bust when he gets to the pros. And I hope he proves me wrong, but let’s review:

    1. The horrible BET Awards performance
    2. This horrible lead music video

    This video will be Drake’s 1st introduce to potential consumers – ppl that actually BUY music, which still happens to be the measure of success these days – and so far…potential consumers think that this video is a square peg in a round hole.

    He made a song for the ladies and created a video for the fellas. I don’t know how this slipped through quality control.

    BTW – I agree with Fool’s Gold aka X – it may be a good thing that black women were not featured in the video. I can see black women saying “How come black women are only portray as sexual monsters in hip-hop?” I guess it’s a lose-lose for the rapper that wants to show “The Breast He Ever Had” bc its either “there are no black women” or “black women are portrayed as freaks.”

    Good points Fools Good & The Honorable about the Black women portrayal thing. I definitely don’t think that portraying Black women as sexual objects is a good thing by any means, but on the flip side don’t portray us as freak shows either. That was my biggest gripe was that the darker women were portrayed only in a masculine and unattractive sense. The juxtaposition was a little glaring and off-putting for me.

    But yeah having the camera focus on your bouncing boobs and flexibile moves isn’t’ a badge of honor either so it’s a lose lose for everyone involved.

    JW- I did watch the first episode of Tiny & Toya and Tiny and they actually aren’t terrible. However, I just don’t find them interesting at all. I also didn’t like the whole “Let’s look for my crackhead mama then leave her wandering the streets” part of the first episode. It would be nice to for BET to showcase someone who is self made and who is doing something positive with their life for a change.

    well, i’m white so maybe i don’t have a dog in this hunt….

    but after i saw this video on mtv, i thought, i can’t imagine there’s not a lot of controversy about it… just because it seems so dated and i couldn’t believe this stuff is still put out by artists, or at least artists of the sort who get big budgets for videos whom you might think would want to take a more nuanced approach….

    anyway, i googled something like “drake controversy video best i ever had” and came across this blog post

    after reading all the comments, i think there should be an anti-Image Awards to go to the people who have done the most to gratuitously damage the image of black people over the previous year…you could have different categories for movies; music; politics; business, etc… lifetime failure awards…

    anyway, the video was definitely well-crafted, funny at points, and as a guy – i found it eminently watchable… on the other hand… it just kind of left me with a sick pit in my stomach… kind of a mix of pity for the situation being what it is and exhausted anger at mtv for broadcasting it… it would break my heart to be a father and to have my daughter watch the video… what could you say?… it’s one thing to explain a sex scene in a movie- not really a big deal… but another thing to explain that video…
