Watch: Jay-Z- Death of Auto Tuner (Official Vid Plus BET Performance)

Last night Jay-Z’s video for “DOA (Death of Auto-Tuner)” premiered. I’m kinda digging the video…I always love when the backdrop of a city like New York is involved and people get out of the sound stage. Jay-Z takes on the persona of a Hip Hop Boss and he comes across as powerful and in charge. Even though the video is pretty simple it actually makes me like the song even more. I still think the message isn’t going to have much of an impact but it certainly creates the buzz he was looking for.

Here is Jay-Z’s performance from the BET Awards last night. The band was crazy hot! He was the only person to represent for Hip Hop in a positive way amongst a sea of buffonery he showed that there is still some good music out there.

What do you guys think of the video for DOA? How ironic did Jay-Z’s performance seem at the BET Awards when half of the earlier performances featured auto-tuner?

  1. completely unrelated: VIBE’s folded :-(

  2. oops..posted before by video comment.

I liked the video and thought it was cool. I still maintian that B.O.B.’s autotune spoof is more entertaining on a strictly entertainmetn level, but DOA is a good song. The video is entertaining. And throwing in the celeb blog factor …since so many fans were waiting for a hair cut, doing it in the middle of the video was a good addition.

I’m ready for autotune to not be as omnipresent a sound as it is right now. I could do without.

  3. argh, i keep hitting publish before im done. Im off today.

I could do without hearing it everywhere. I wish it was reserved for moments when it made that fresh and necessary sound.

I like the video except for the intro – a whole minute of slow mo without music.
If you notice while he was performing at the awards, the crowd quited down a bit as opposed to the other performances aided by auto tune, they were screaming and singing. Very ironic indeed. Don’t think it fit into to the whole vibe of the party. Some people I think are agreeing with him on this auto tuner thing out of respect, they name Jay-Z has status.
As for some of the performances with the auto tuner, Jamie’s ‘blame it”, it sounded horrible. However the song is hott and the performance was cool so people liked it and overlooked the auto tuner.

    Mr. O- Can’t say that I did.

BkQueen- I agree with you about people mostly agreeing with Jay-Z out of respect. Do I believe that auto-tune is dead? Far from it…but it is getting a little annoying. However…I think even without him trying to make a statement about auto-tune the song is still hot.

tielex- I think the audience may have been more quiet because the song is so new. Typically at awards shows people perform songs that everyone has heard for a while and people can get more into it. But yeah Jamie Foxx is proving to be horrible with the auto-tuner live. I’ve yet to see a good performance of him using that thing.

Oh yeah…sucks about Vibe folding but Quincy Jones said today that he is going to try and get it back and turn it into an online thing.
