Watch: Maxwell- Pretty Wings

Maxwell has a new video for his song “Pretty Wings”. This song is like a year or more old but I’m glad to see him finally doing a video for it. I hope this means that he is serious about actually putting out a new album. The song starts off a little slow and Maxwell’s mumbling makes it a strain to actually understand the words coming out of his mouth but the way the song builds with his voice and the production getting stronger towards the end makes this song worth a listen. I’m inclined to like just about anything Maxwell does automatically but I’ve heard another new song of his when he recently toured that I think would’ve been a better first single. I can’t for the life of me remember what it was though and he has done a pretty competent job of keeping his new music from leaking which is far from normal these days so I can’t share. (Edit: I found the song it’s called “Bad Habits” and listening to it again totally explains why I can’t help but feel like this would’ve been a better choice than Pretty Wings- Click here to listen). Anyway…the video is typical Maxwell…nice and simple. I like it but not blown away.

What do you guys think of the video/song?

  1. I’m so happy that he is making music again. I was to young to appreciate him for what he is and I’m glad that he’s back at it now that I’m older. I’m looking forward to his album. Oh…and he’s FINE!!!!! L0L!!!

I like this song. I knew of his music but wasn’t checkin for him when I was younger. I might cop his album though. This song has the slightest hint of something off of Usher’s Confessions. Not sayin’ he’s jockin, cuz I know always said in some songs it seems Usher was taking a little Maxwell. Anyway I hope he has a lot of success. Seeing him speak about his music and stuff in interviews makes me want to hear more.

i find the video extremely sensual. thats the word. sensual. it conveyed feeling through very understated visuals.
being half asleep in bed with someone u feel safe with
thinking about them while u sleep
the feeling of crisp cotton or satin sheets or a cashmere blanket evoking the touch of a lover on ur skin…

women that werent so heavily madeup bewigged or turned out in dita von teese style undergarments that you couldnt feel they were you( if u r female of course)

simply put… sensual, intimate with the added plus of a fine ass man singing a great song

sigh… i believe i ve done a mini review here

Pam you definitely make a very good point. Maxwell is the kind of artist than can “sing the phonebook” and women will lose their minds over. Having just seen him in concert though and seeing how truly crazy people were going over “Bad Habits” though makes me feel like that would’ve been much more explosive than this song. It has the same vibe as “Til The Cops Come Knockin” and you know how that popped off. I can see how someone who is just hearing him back on the scene can be far more excited about this song than I am.

Fool’s Gold (hey girl!) and Soda…damn ya’ll are making me feel old! Just don’t tell me you aren’t up on Sade and I won’t feel so bad lol.

I agree whole heartedly-”Bad Habits” would have been much better. This video and song’s theme has been played out, and I am slightly repulsed by it’s message. A playa ( or dawg ) is still a dog regardless of how he looks or sounds!
