Teairra Marie has a new song featuring Kanye West called “Diamonds”. This is a nice standard R&B song. Teairra has a nice voice and there is something I’ve always liked about her…but her new music is unremarkable. She went from being like a young Teedra Moses to being like Keri Hilson without a cool haircut or the backing of two mega producers. I don’t see this song being any bigger than her first single even with the addition of Kanye West because it is just a little too cookie cutter. She needs something that will stand out and this isn’t it. I remember her first album had the big hit “Make A Girl Feel Good” and quite a few daring songs like “No Daddy” (Click here to watch). It wasn’t the type of album that would appeal to everyone but she was clearly in her own lane and she had songs a lot of people could relate to. Nonetheless I still like this and if she can step her game up and channel some of that inner bad assness and bravado she displayed on her first album she might be able to give a few R&B chicks a run for their money.
