Watch: Brick & Lace – Bad to Di Bone
Brick & Lace, a Jamaican Reggae Pop group, has a new video for the song “Bad to Di Bone”. I heard about this group a year or so ago but just never felt compelled to post anything. However, after reading up on their background and seeing their new video I figured I would do a post. Anyway…their video is a high energy-fun-dance video…but I really need to ask that people leave the leotards to Beyonce! The reggae parts are much better than the regular singing parts and the hook is not all that hot, but overall this would be a great song for clubs. If Brick & Lace ever get some pub and hit the mainstream they will bring some much needed variety to the urban music scene. For some reason Reggae (even this incredibly watered down version of it) has been off the mainstream map for a few years so it would be nice to see it make a comeback.
What do you guys think of the song and the video? Can Brick & Lace parlay their Reggae background into a pop career like Rihanna?

IDK why but I was expecting some make raggae singers….I guess cause that’s all you see really…anywho…I liked the song and the video was okay. I’m with you regarding raggae music….where is it? what happened to it?
Watered down Dancehall. Eh… Not real impressive.
The girls have vocal talent though. I’d like to hear more from them. This particular song just didn’t do it for me.
I meant “male”
Yooo whats up. Lovin’ that you posted this… The song is aight but I love these girls.
Signed to Akon’s record label [I don't know if they still are?]… but their last CD, and I’m guessing debut, was my go-to record last summer.
I remember as far back as ‘07 when I worked at “Guess? INC.” they’d play the “Love Is Wicked” video – and I’d hide in the corner and do a couple dance moves! HAHA! It was that infectious, and watching all the people dance in the video made me want to move my hips, girl… no lie.
Anyways, “Mr. Officer” & “Bust a Shot” were those jams you could play right after “Could You Be Loved” by Bob and right before “Beautiful” by Damian Marley.
Get That Clear, Never Never, Don’t Stop, & Boyfriend – the songs I had been dying to listen to by a reggae artist… Easy to dance to, easy to sing along to, gritty – heavy beats. Loved these tracks.
Take Me Back – yeah listen to that track – not really any kind of island influence, but a really beautiful pop ballad.
They are really gorgeous and can dance – I hope we hear more from them. =D
I want to see reggae comeback on radio but, I’m not feelin them.
Maybe its a regional thing. They still play reggae on the stations out here. Really, I think I hear at Sehrani and Mavado everyday, Rune often enough — plus a few songs during the throwback at noon at least once during the week. There’s also apparently some song called “do the stanky leg” which from what I’ve been told is a rip off of the “nuh linger” dance. I havent heard the stanky leg song, so no judgment there. Random insert: Heavy D has had the number one reggae album for a few months now.
I used to jam to Love is Wicked when that came out. I’m not feeling this as much, but its a decent look. And they needed to put something out.
I dont know about doing a Rihanna turn (which I still think is one of the funnier changes in artist development and marketing). Their talent is there though…I’m more interested in seeing how they work as a group consisting of two females in the secular music arena. They’re already poised to continue performing better since their work isnt as profane or dirty as dancehall, which the Jamaican commission is coming down pretty heavily on. Rbmvibes.com has an article up on the changes they are trying to push concerning song lyrics and content.
As of this week…Jamaica has officially outlawed any music that contains sexually explicit or promotes violence…here is the link…(I wonder how long this is gonna last) the song is cool..but probably won’t make the ipod…

FYI: President Obama’s speech was AMAZING tonight!!
I don’t know, butt i just Love that man!!!
“but I really need to ask that people leave the leotards to Beyonce!” Ole girl in the white leotard, her body is killin Beyonce’s! and as far as raggae music the sound has changed so much from what i use to hear(U-Roy, Sugar Minott, Shabba), its impossible for me to compare.
Why should people leave leotards to Beyonce? Did she ‘invent’ that too. Please. Plus this is not reggae music – this is dancehall – there is a difference.
Ok i took some time out to finally watch this video. I think the beat is cool and yes i would have to agree that this more like some dancehall music.
Are these two women really Jamaicans?! because they really do look like Jamaicans.
On anothernote, Reecie Jamaicans have always been wearing leotards….lol…no, but seriously, they always have been. Especially, the dance hall chicks. And if anything i think B stole that away from them, along with her obvious caribbean dance moves and “whines”. Eg in her music video for BABY BOY!!!
All and all, Cool video and song!
You made some Good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree.
