Watch: Mariah Carey- Hero 2009
Mariah Carey did a new recording of her classic “Hero” for an upcoming album “Ballads”. Hmmm…I’m so confused by this…who in the hell lied and told her this was a good idea? This new take sounds like a really bad karaoke version of her song. I’ve accused her of just flat out saying f*&k effort for the past year…but what if this really is her trying? This video and remake is a pointless, flat, and completely void of emotion. I think it might just be time to ask the question…is Mariah falling off?

She has obvious talent, but in the last year or so it’s like something happened to her voice or her..i dont even know. I seen this the other day and thought “who in her camp thought that this was a good idea?” For another singer to sing like this it probably wouldnt be a big deal, but people expect more from Mariah.
Compared to the original, this is a definite downgrade.

Her last album sounded like a continuation of her comeback album. Mariah isn’t bringing it anymore. Christina, Beyonce and even Rihanna are bringing it more than Mariah Carey. Her music isn’t shown any growth anymore.
it became evident to me that mariah completely lost her singing chops when i watch all her videos from back n the day on VH1 soul (you knowwhen they play and artist’s entire retrospective)…. and i was like wow,mariah used to be able to REALLY sings
i guess all that high octave screeching, mental meldowns or something did her in, cuz she struggles so hard for the simplest notes (usually ending in an epic FAIL)… and shes ALWAYS lip-syncing. I also think thats why she’s found success in todays market where the sing-talk driven industry — that formula seems to work for her cuz she doesnt have to really sing just fast paced melodies
OMG…DOWNGRADE is an understatement. This is horrible. I am a big Mariah fan but I couldn’t even get through the first verse it was too painful to listen to…. I’ll hold on to my old version.
I’m not trying to be funny but I will now go look for the old version to find comfort from this ‘assault’ on good music..
This is bad..but I think that they rerecorded it so that people know what to expect from her when she sings it live…lol..its sad cause she struggled in this version too..dang…i sing better in my shower..lmao

This definitely isn’t better than the original but I didn’t find it as awful as people have said. However, the video was boring and her recent performances have been just as bland. IDK whats been up with Mariah lately because I thought E=MC2 was better than TEOM. At this point I’d like her to chill from music for awhile because she doesn’t seem that amped about it anymore.
I agree with Gr3g. I don’t think this sounds THAT bad I just think she tryna put a new spin on her Hero/One Sweet Day days and it was just flat out boring. She definitely needs to sit down and just enjoy married life, have some babies and come back strong in a few years.
it doesent sound bad at all the problem is that people are automatically going 2 compare it 2 the original which for me yeh is much better than this but if u just focus on the vocals alone and not compare it to the 1st one then u can easily say she has stil got the ability to sing this song well and she did. the voice is still there

yes its different but it’s far from shit.
in a highly competative market, producing new talent both shit and good, the greats still have to go out there and try to compete and produce something different and new. like most of you said there are new singers coming out that can now sing mariah’s old songs as good as her. so she obviously has to step it up abit and produce something new and more complicated. her vocals are far from karaoke. she can no longer produce songs with “simple” traditional forms of singing tools she has to use her highly advance range of classical singing traing skills to produce her music to keep her from being left behind.
this is pretty hard considering that she is aging,
for any singer it is hard enough to sing the way she is, let alone mariah who is coming up to 40 years old and can still sing in the 5th octave and higher.
so parden if she is singing with a little crackle.
and as to her emothion in this new recording it sounds more emotional than the original, it just may be a different emotion that she wants to pertray.

Mariah’s made the song personal for her fans- as her fan’s, we should be thanking her, not judging her. This is a brilliant song, i can feel the passion and emotion when she’s singing it.
Mariah is doing just fine and she knows it. Too bad you can’t appreciate that she hasn’t dropped out and let her fans down like other artists. She is topping the charts everytime she opens her mouth and that is when everyone else shuts theirs. You just wait when she surpasses the beatles and EVERYONE in recorded history with the most #1’s. It could be this year. So haters don’t mean a thang and lovers will be celebrating along with Mimi! Holla!
