Listen: Usher- Hush featuring Barack Obama

Usher has a new political song called “Hush”. It is extremely easy for a political song to be corny, but this is very poignant. The anecdotes that Usher sings about definitely resonate in today’s political landscape. The first story about the rich man who enjoys the fruits of achieving the American Dream yet belabors the sacrifice expected from him so perfectly answers the latest hysterical smear of the Republican Party accusing Barack Obama and the Dems of being Socialists. The other story about the apathetic woman who doesn’t believe that her vote doesn’t count will hopefully speak to those out there who for some crazy reason still share that belief that now is not the time to sit on the sidelines. Usher also brilliantly incorporates lines from Obama’s speeches to make the song that much more inspiring and powerful. I love, love, love this song and have to give the utmost praise to Usher for coming out with this. Bravo! Click here to listen
What do you guys think of this song? Isn’t it great to see so many people in the Hip Hop, R&B, Entertainment industry getting politically active in this election and using their celebrity for good cause?

I DO like this song… probably played it over 40 times. But, I prefer the version without the Obama voice bytes (the one I have).
I haven’t listened to it yet, but have you guys seen the lil kids from the Ron Clark Academy that remade Whatever you Like to be about the election “You can vote however you like”. They are too cute and their remake has been stuck in my head all weekend.
This song is good. I do think its great that so many people have gotten involved in this election, whether its just encouraging the vote or vocalizing who they support. Im kind of a cynic by nature, so I was a little skeptical at first, esp. since in past elections many of the peopel toting these causes werent even registered themselves. Still, getting the message out is good, whatever the motives may be.
Another concern that i did have though was the ability to sabotage or hurt a cause , even if not intentional. Regarding the Obama campaign specifically its better if some folk just support from the sidelines and don’t make an actual song about it, because they may let some unsavory opinions and lines remain in there. Overall it may not have the largest effect on the polls, but it does impact image. A great deal of this is related to image and a 24/7 media has very little to do but find random stuff to nitpick, or put out random DL Hughley shows that seem to serve little purpose.
They even made an Obama mixtape, which I’m surprised took them so long to do.
Okay, I’m all over the place in this response. Bottom line: Good Song, nice to have people reacting to causes and expressing opinions. Hopefully this doesn’t die on November 4th.
i cannot put into words how excited i am about the upcoming election
i have degrees in both Political science & sociology, so ive pretty much studied Politics and society my entire academic career……. but not until now have i felt personally obligated and invested in the political process. ive voted since ive been old enough (last 2 elections) but this is 1st time i’ve donated to a campaign, 1st time i went out and registered voters, made calls on behalf of a candidate.
with the last 2 election i had become disenchanted with politics, but Obama has definitely restored my faith in the process—– and i just cant wait to cast my vote
Usher could use a hit song right about now.
It’s a cool song Iliked it. It won’t it could be a hit but won’t be because radio doesn’t play music with a message constantly. I think I like it without the bytes as well.
i love this song !! the message is wonderful. i have it on repeat and im playin it right now. it can almost make me cry because we are so close 2 having an AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT. i am so proud. people please vote on NOV. 4 !! PLEASE !!
headsup the new mariah video just premiered. its an event.
and yeah my boy jon b is back. preview his new album at rushmoredrive.com/jonb/
BklynQueen…I saw that video it was SUPER adorable! I love the idea of fusing civil engagement with Hip Hop or something the kids can relate to. Just about every kid out there loves music and loves to dance so trying to bring meaning to lyrics is a very productive way to get kids engaged.
Jermar…I have to co-sign. I have followed the last three elections very closely, even watching both party conventions in ‘00 and ‘04. This year the GOP is so disgusting and just blatantly racist I couldn’t stomach their convention, though I did watch the main speeches. But this is the first time that I have donated, gone out there and registered voters and actively campaigned. I have never been so enthusiastic and invested the way I am this year. ‘04 was heartbreaking for me, because I couldn’t understand how people could hand Bush another term. However, this year I am confident that in 7 days the world is going to see a new America and real change will come. Eyes on the prize folks…let’s do it!
