Listen: M.I.A- Boyz Remix featuring Jay-Z

M.I.A.has a remix to “Boyz” featuring Jay-Z. This song is a lot of fun! I love the energy of it and it just makes you want to hop around and spaz. sure this song is pretty skimpy on the lyrics and very repetitive but sometimes a brainless song is just what is needed to let loose. Jay-Z’s verse was great and he added a nice flavor to the song without messing up the flow. Click here to listen
What do you guys think of the song? Can you dig a catchy infectious song like this or do you need a bit more substance in your music?

this is pretty much the only song i like by MIA because the guy who produced the beat and song is a popular baltimore club music producer and sampled a lot of the Bmore club sound into this song…. when i first heard this song when it first came out ages ago i immediately recognized the sound (it takes me back to my youth) and then it was confirmed who produced it
other than that i think MIA is pretty unremarkable, i just dont get her appeal at all… other than the occasional hipster citing her as a reference to show how “different” their music taste is
@ reecie :
Who is MIA???
Is that that chick on the pic?
Because I’ve never heard about her before. His she really famous…that’s weird
Skimpy on the lyrics? Brainless song? Check again.
Usually, M.I.A.’s songs are political, and this is no exception. She’s talking about stereotypes of men, but NOT saying that they ALL fit the mentioned stereotypes (that men drink too much, that they’re hot-tempered, etc.) by asking “How many, no money boyz are crazy?/How many boyz are raw?/How many, no money boyz are rowdy?/How many start a war?” and on and on.
I have to applaud another appropriate Obama drop by Jay Z in this song. His verse fits in and adds something else to the song’s content. It’s a different take on the MIA collabo from all those paper planes remixes. I really love the video for the song as well
I’ll agree with Karen that MIA’s songs dont skimp on message. They are often very political..and political on a global level too. However since its not always the easiest to decipher what it is that she’s saying, the message could easily be lost in its beat, which is often catchy. (lol and I’m not a hipster). Really I just heard her first single on Fuse a few years back and was intrigued and it grew on me after I googled to figure out what it was that she was saying. I still think an entire concert of this may be a bit much. I know the Cool Kids were opening for her on the last concert..and I’ve heard that despite the hype of them +her it was a bit disappointing.
JW- MIA is the chick in the picture above. I can’t tell you much about her…I’ve seen her name and she like a huge indie hit…but that’s about all I know.
Ok Karen…you got me on that one. The sparseness of the lyrics just made me space out and enjoy the production, but now that you point it out I will give it another listen.
And BklynQueen…I LOVE that Jay-Z continues to name drop Obama…that’s a wonderful thing and I applaud him for it.
Very understandable. Her accent’s a tough one to get used to, too. If you listen to more of her songs (like “BirdFlu,” “Sunshowers,” and “10 Dollar”), it’ll be obvious that she has a LOT of substance. BklynQueen’86 is right; a lot of the political statements she makes are international…which is why a good portion of it is probably over some of our heads (definitely including myself).
I’m glad that people are starting to give M.I.A. the attention she deserves especially since she was about to retire..she’s been doing her thing for awhile now so I guess its better late than never that people catch on
And yeah her songs are fun to just listen to, but at the same time there’s a lot of substance in there, so its a good combination
Thanx Reecie!
But I think it would have been better if she retired! Not feeling this one bit……….

Switch produced this track both the original and the jay-z remix. The beats were recorded in trinidad and india. I would call him baltimore by any means!
It’s a pure carnival in one song - Jay z kills it as he totally gets the song and embraces it.
I’ve had her CD for a while now. I was working at a retail store and you know how they play the most random music. They played Boyz and it grew on me and I got her CD. Her music is definitely not something you can listen to all the time but it’s something you can dance to. She has a track with Timbaland on her CD that more hip hop and it’s pretty hot too. It’s the perfect CD to get dressed to before you go out! L0L
