Watch: Beyonce- Single Ladies- Put a Ring On It

Today Beyonce’s new video for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” hit the net. I like the simplicity of the video even though I really sat here thinking, is this one scene going to be the entire video? The answer is yes, so let me just warn you right now so that you can enjoy the video much more. One thing that Beyonce has been absolutely brilliant about is giving the ladies dance moves they can take and run with in the clubs (i.e. Crazy In Love). Ciara may have great dance moves, but let’s be real you aren’t going to walk into a dance club and see women on the ground with their legs up in the air or doing the splits…Beyonce knows this and she keeps her dance moves simple and easy to emulate. THAT is what makes a R&B song a club banger and a smash hit. This is the kind of song that ladies can have a lot of fun with…it’s catchy, bad a$$, and perfect for lots of shaking, popping, and winding. Thumbs up for Beyonce…she has the substance with “If I Were a Boy” and the energetic dance track with “Single Ladies”.

Are you guys ready for a Beyonce takeover once again? Which video do you guys like better?

PS- Thanks to the readers who tipped me off about the video.

I, too, sat there thinking is this the only scene. Once the video was over, I thought….I actually like it. It’s not your “typical video” for this type of song. It would be so expected if it was Bee and her girls driving up to a club and a dude trying to holla and her ex in the background staring….typical and predictable. I’m glad she didn’t go that route. Again Jake Nava is a mastermind because he took a video that was one scene and made you enjoy it from the different angles etc….I like it. Bee knows how to please her fans.

And it seems like she’s also targeting her fans’ boyfriends too. Around the :50 part, they’ll certainly be interested. I’m gay and I had to rewind that shit.

A new tidbit I found out. Apparently Beyonce’s new album will be a double disc titled I Am/ SAsha Fierce. There’s this new website out whoissashafierce.com too. I’m still a little reserved about the album, but this is certainly interesting.

Good find bigphil! I’m going to have to check that out. I’ve always been a huge fan of Beyonce’s music. In the past I’ve found her personality a bit bland, but she is opening up a lot more now and peeling away that beauty pageant fakeness. I think her new music and approach to things shows that she is becoming more fearless and comfortable in her own skin. .

she looked amazing here, but i have to say i liked ‘if i were a boy’ better.
theres nothing she could’ve done to make that video any more perfect.

And I heard that the robo cop glove thing is part of Sasha Fierce. Everytime the robot glove comes out, Sasha’s on!

The video is amazing. For all of us choreographers and dancers out there, I have to take my hat off to the concept and choreographer. I would love to take a dance class that does all of this!

I dont like the video. I tried and I can’t. I didn’t like the song to begin with because its kind of annoying for me, but I was hoping the video would make me come around. I tried to reason “well the contrast between the simplicity of the video and the energy of the song is good right?”…No, I still cant get down with it, this will be one of the songs I skip on the album :-(

“Are you guys ready for a Beyonce takeover once again”??

NO, I don’t hate her but I just can’t get with a person has snobby as she is. She might seem to be a nice down to earth person everywhere else but here in Houston, she acts like a complete snob! And yes, I actually know people that know her. I tried though…..well maybe a little

The song is still annoying but the video makes no damn sense. Who just dances that hard for that fuckin long??!?! It was cool and it definitely keeps your attention though. Definitely wouldn’t listen to it by choice but if it came on in the club I would dance….

If you’ve noticed, I’ve tried to be much more civilized than you usually are on a Rihanna’s post but your ass-witt comments are beginning to annoy the F out of me so am advising you to butt your annoying *ss out of other people’s business esp. When am NOT talking to you!!!

To people that actually have some sense(not including the two BUFFOONS ABOVE):
Ne-yo is set to perform on dancing with the stars tomorrow.

@ reecie: I know I should be concentrating on writing that song because this could be my big brake but I had to take a time-out and hit up my favorite blog-site! Lol but am still stuck…

@JW….if you notice I’ve been very respectful of your comments and have gone as far as agreeing with some of your comments. We will never agree when it comes to Rihanna on her singing. We will agree she is pretty, HoTT and has good fashion sense. If I feel she can’t sing why do you always have to get angry and try and dog. You are not being fair. This is not a Rihanna blog. You brought her into this and people commented based on your opinion of Rihanna. You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that but what makes me mad is when you get mad if someone says something bad about Rihanna. I love Beyonce’s music. I probably feel for Beyonce the way you feel for Rihanna the difference is I can take when someone says they don’t like Bee or her music….that’s that persons opinion and their right. I may not agree with it but I’m not going to cuss them out especially if they weren’t disrespectful and most of the people here aren’t except you. This is a truce for me because it’s not even funny anymore. Can you be a bigger person and move on from this Rihanna issue and the going back and forth between the 2 of us when it’s Rihanna related?

like it or not, this will be the new “Get Me Bodied” for 2009….hell, we’re still dancin to “Get Me Bodied” lol….and for the dancing for all of u who dont know those moves (specifically during the chorus/hook after the second verse) are from the dance girls of HBCU’s……i immediately noticed that. also in the ‘gay scene’ that could be considered as j-settin…..bee is mixing alot of different types of dancing into one cohesive choreography…..from the HBCU girls….classical/ballet…even some african and booty pops!!!! what a genius ……”hating is a refuge for the bitter soul”

    GET OUT OF HERE!

@ truspeaker : THOSE HBCU GIRLS WILL SURE BE DANCIN TO SOMETHIN NEW! THAT’S WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU WORSHIP TRASH!

That reminds me of a movie where people just do stupid ass dance moves because the person doing them is hot.

As racist as it sounds… I’ll stick with the comparisson to monkeys - regardless of whether the girl doing the dance move is white or black, she’ll look like a monkey flipping her wrists and doing that Britney Spears hair flip.

“Womanizer” - that hairflip was overused… I can spot it anywhere now.

Tina Turner didn’t pull moves from 5 decades previous… That’s why she is Iconic.

  1. This isn’t the fist time Beyonce has used Fosse stuff in her choreography. My friend pointed out to me the whole Sweet Charity/ Get me Bodied rip before…and to that I say, so what? I’d cry foul if she was ripping off old Mariah from the ripped up shorts days, but it is what it is. I can’t definitely say anyone else is using Fosse choreography at the moment, but if someone came and mixed some bits from Revelations into a music video, I’d say its hot.

I’m not downing originality. But a Fosse rip doesn’t ruin it for me. I guess my cheesy factor is only increased by the fact that I personally can stomach broadway musical themes redone fifty million and one times….movie musicals are another story.s except for Grease 2.

I watched “Womanizer” with the sound off. I should give it another try.

    • Reecie
    • October 14th, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Ryan…your whole monkey comment is over the top. The fact is nothing is original. All of the dances you see in Beyonce’s videos have a tradition dating back to Africa. I wouldn’t think classify African dance traditions as being monkey like at all.

The whole point of a video is to give people something to walk away with. If Beyonce were to make a dance video and nobody wanted to do any of the dances that would make it wack. There is nothing even remotely stupid about having fun and copying the dances in this video. You were just putting extras on it…it’s not even that serious.

    • Reecie
    • October 14th, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Oh yeah and let me add that half the moves in the video I was doing back in junior high 12 years ago…but that just makes it that much more fun. It used to be more about popping and shaking your hips back then, whereas now it is more about winding and fluid movement. I love the video and the first time I hear it in the club I will be working it out.

Ryan I’m not sure what race you are, but refering to a black person as a monkey in any capacity of the word is not a wise thing to do…just giving you a heads up cuz some people may not be as polite

Now I am not going to lie…I couldn’t stand this song when I first heard it. But now, since the video came out, its starting to get catchy. I usually don’t like anything Beyonce does but this made me watch the video like twenty times! She looks very good in this!

@ Fools Gold, beyonce was just on 106th & Park and actually just said that was the inspiration for the video, so I guess you’re right

    • truspeaker
    • October 14th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

and once again i repeat (to ryan…) “hating is a refuge for the bitter soul”….like it or not beyonce has been and will be everywhere so adapt to the bee movement!!!

    • Jamaican Woman(JW)
    • October 14th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

Ok, so I was at work and a co-worker was watching 106th and park and I stayed and watched Beyonce’s two videos again!
So am just gonna say what I have to say. Point Blank! am going to have to agree with Ryan and say that her “If I were a boy” video was much better than this one. It was more edgy and heartfelt. It show-cased whatever growth she had as an artist. I didn’t care much for this video at all, and watching it over didn’t change my mind! It was sooooo obvious that even the hosts of 106th park took to her “If I were a boy” video more than this one.
Beyonce would do better sticking to songs and videos like that, that actually showed some substance more than her typical booty shaking vids!

FYI: I noticed that she looked different without all that make-up and European weave on. I think she should stick to that look, because she finally looked like her REAL self. Not
    Over-processed…….

FYI; to all Beyonce patriots that are coming behind to curse me out because of my opinion, don’t bother because I SAID WHAT I SAID, AND I MEANT WHAT I SAID!!!

Although I appreciate all of your responses in light of my recent comments, I would advise each and every one of you to lightly remove yourselves from the high horse from which you speak.

It is 2008, and yes, I am educated enough to come to that realization - but the ephinany you so wish for me to have is miniscule in comparison to what I have experienced and learned throughout life.

Calling someone a ‘racist’ or even ignorant because they use the term ‘monkey’ to refer to that individual as an UNORIGINAL PUPPET is ill-advised. Calling Beyonce or any African American a porch-monkey out of pure hatred would be more along the lines of what you had in mind as a racist.

That is insulting to me and every activist fighting against racism to date.

It is not ok for you to fling such a hatred term around. I am not a racist.

“All of the dances you see in Beyonce’s videos have a tradition dating back to Africa. I wouldn’t think classify African dance traditions as being monkey like at all.”

The fact of the matter is Beyonce’s “traditional dance moves” DO NOT reflect that of the African culture, especially in this video.

    - this is Jazz, baby, not Capoeira.

She took the Fosse approach - who is a white man - who inspired an entire generation of Jazz dance-moves.

So I am hating on a WHITE MANS dance moves - so now am I racist? Because then I wouldn’t be speaking about an African-American woman anymore, would I?

Reecie, you know I was not speaking about the Deja Vu video. I was refering to “Put a Ring On It”.

    Get out of here.

Shakira did Beyonce’s dance moves before Beyonce even knew she was going to record a song called Deja Vu, much less a music video for it.

Watch “Obsession” by Shakira and you will see, yet again, Beyonce’s UNORIGINAL swagger-jacking techniques in effect.

Be eaaaaaaaaasy - you know I don’t hate B all the time! I gave her HELLLLA props for ‘If I Were A Boy’

This video was just wack - and I will point you out in a crowd and call you an unoriginal puppet if you copy this shit to this song… Point blank.

    PEACE AND LOVE =]

    • el presidente, ryan
    • October 14th, 2008 at 11:29 pm

And I am educated enough to admit when I made a mistake.

Although Fosse was a mastermind at Jazz, it was our culture that began the entire Jazz-dance movement.

So yes, even though white women danced with this technique of dance that Beyonce so whole-heartily gained inspiration from, it does indeed carry heavy roots straining from the African-American culture.

    • el presidente, ryan
    • October 14th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

not African culture, however. African-American culture.

    • Denise
    • October 15th, 2008 at 4:07 am

@ryan - thanks for clearing up your remark. But honestly reading your comment the first thing that came to mind, you were referring to not only beyonce but all African-Americans as porch monkeys because of the African dance traditions. For you to be an activist you should know using words like “bunch of monkeys” or monkeys would leave one to believe you are making a racial remark you should have clarified. Anyway you clarified yourself and I should have not called you a racist considering I don’t know you. I should have been more clear in saying you are coming off as a racist using derogatory remarks…Peace and Love to you as well.

They could have easily thrown Kelly and Michelle on each side of her for a DC throwback video!!! lol!

I am afraid that Beyonce is approaching that “over-exposed zone most female mega performers hit. Music, videos, movies, modeling, clothing, perfume, high profile romance……., it’s like the stock & housing markets: what goes up must come down.

I personally love the video. The choreography is amazing. Not necessarily original, but very entertaining and well done. For her to be able to do it in one continuous nonstop shot is just awesome, and shows how much of a great performer she is. Her choreographer for this video is also great. Idk if it was Jante or not but whoever it was did a good job. Get it B. and to compare it to “If I Were a Boy” is not really relevant because they’re two different subjects and two completely different songs that have totally different meanings. I think the videos match both songs perfectly.
