Watch: Fashion Rocks Performances- Beyonce, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake
Rihanna performed Madonna’s classic song “Vogue”. Say what you want about her talent level, but you can’t deny that this chick is turning into a force to be reckoned with. She is a trendsetter and is becoming the go to girl for the big shows. She has come along with her stage performance skills from being another Beyonce wannabe clone to being a bad ass in her own right. She totally rocked this performance!
Mariah Careyperformed her song “I’m That Chick You Like”. Mariah sounds great but damn could she be any more stiff? I know she has never been a good dancer, but she could at least move around a little bit. Her stiffness is an odd contrast to her hyper active dancers in the back. Anyway…the song is hot and she looked great.
Beyonce performed “At Last” as a tribute to Etta James (who she is playing in a new movie). Beautiful job by Beyonce…it’s obvious that she is taking the task of playing Etta James very seriously and now I’m looking forward to seeing if she delivers on the big screen.
Chris Brown briefly saluted Sam Cooke’s song “Cupid” and then turned to his new song “Forever”. With all the dancing Chris does I forget how nice his voice is. He did a good job with “Cupid” but it was entirely too quick. I’m not a fan of “Forever” and with the voicebox effect he would’ve been better off just lip syncing his performance.
For the Motown tribute, Justin Timberlake paid homage to Marvin Gaye singing “Got To Give It Up”. I would’ve much rather have seen Robin Thicke or Maxwell sing instead, but that’s just my own personal bias. Beyonce joined JT onstage for “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing”. Solid performances, but I wasn’t blown away.

I love me some Rhianna and some Madonna so she did a good job.
Mariah is stiff as fuck but other bitches like Keyshia Cole need to follow her lead and stand still so they won’t sound a hot ass mess.
Beyonce did her usual picture perfect performance. Chris Brown was aiight.
And I needed the Jackson 5 to be on point with their turns n shit! Not a Justin or Beyonce fan so I didn’t watch their performance, sorry.
I guess doing a good job in the music business means now, looking cute, singing catchy hooks and standing around poking out ya’ ass. If that’s the case than yeah Rihanna did a great job.
She vogued what a total of 5 times. She was robotic and she didn’t even sing live. How can a singer call themselves a singer and lip sing?..I just don’t get that.
I can respect your opinion Reecie, plus it’s your blog. We will definitely never agree on Rihanna’s talent (lack of) but that’s the beauty of mature adults having a discussion on a topic, I can respect your opinion.
Moving on….cause I know the obsessive chick is on her way and I need a good laugh. She is funny and don’t even know it.
Rihanna - She did a good job with the song. It was a nice performance.
Mariah Carey - That was my first time hearing that song and I wasn’t sure if it was a cover song or a original song. I liked the song.
Beyonce - She is one of my favorite artist and she did a great job with that Etta song. I’m looking forward on seeing the movie. How many movies have Beyonce been in where she played a singer?
Chris Brown - He proved that he could sing. It was kind of disappoiting that he didn’t do that whole song. The performance of Crazy would have been better if he did it at the VMA.
Justin Timberlake - Another one of my favorite artist. He killed it and he reminded me why I think highly of him as an artist. This kid is just an incredible talent. It was nice to see him hit the stage again.
Kid Rock and Mary J blige - I enjoyed watching them together. Kid Rock is a great singer and it is fun watching him do whatever type of music he likes. Some people might say his voice is to rockish, but he was great.
Justin Timberlake and Beyonce - Those two did a great job. I love that little acappella arrangement they did at end. Their voices blend nicely together. I hear they are going in the studio together this weekend and I can’t wait to hear what they will come up with.
Fashion rock was better than the VMA. At least the host here made me laugh. I think the night belong to Beyonce. She gave three incredible performance. Fergie also performed three times, but Beyonce did a better job with it. I hear that the reason Lil Wayne didn’t perform was because he was being a diva and refused to let security look into his bags.
When I saw pictures of Timberlake and Beyonce performing together. I was under the impression they were going to sing Until the End of the time, but I did enjoy what they ended up doing.
No comment on Rihanna. I really do like her, but trendsetter she is not.
I agree with you stallion, beyonce has played the role of a singer a one too many times. I just hope this is her last time. We all know beyonce can do that type of role, lets see her play a drug addict or something like that lol
Chris Brown, I appreciate that when he’s done his performance you know he gave 110%..there’s some people that you feel could’ve gave more, but I never get that type of feeling when I watch him
i think rihanna gave another lackluster performance, Im sayin’, if youre gonna lipsync– you should at the minimum give an great dance performance with energy (thats the only way i can excuse lipsyncing).
beyonce was good, and her performance made me a bit more interested in the “cadillac records” movie to see how shell pull off etta james’ crazy antics
other than that my favorite performance of the night would have to be Solange’s. she gave a show, energy, sung live, used the stage, etc… i couldnt even hate
LMFAO Thank you Denise, my ass thought the same thing, she didn’t even sing LIVE & was the ONLY “Singer” that night that didn’t sing live, and I thought her performance was all Glam…like always, and it’s a Madonna song were talking about

Christina’s voice is so versatile, just like when she she sang James Brown’s ‘It’s a Man’s World’ at the Grammy’s & KILLED it!
I saw the youtube of Bee, Christina and Etta today. Not to go to deep into this…it was a tribute and if you watch Bee’s performance she was sticking to the original version of Etta’s down to the riffs and runs. Knowing Bee if she wanted to make the song hers, she would have done waay more with the song. I heard Christina’s awhile back and I like it. She was making it her own and not necessarily singing the original version.
Yes Solange gave a great performance and I am still shocked she sang live and danced. She looked like she was having fun. Plus she knew her peers were watching so she had to go for it and not hold back.
Solange gave a great performance. She can sing, but I’m not really expecting her album to be good. If it is than I would go buy it now, but I’m skeptic of it.

Solange cn be a lil off all she wants …but I love her songs off this album (thes ones ive heard) and she’s been great in every performance I’ve seen this time around.
I thought Robin Thicke should have been thrown a bone as well. I actually made that comment to my sister while watching the show.
Personally, I think Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Chris brown owned it that night. They were wonderful!
Rihanna was most definitely the best performer of the night! Enjoyed Beyonce and Justin’s performance. CB did prove that he was not only an excellent performer but also a great singer.(Even though I always knew he was).Mariah also sounded really good.

1. Rihanna’s performance was cute, although she looked like she was uncomfortable with the routine
2. Chris Brown did his usual stunts and shows…a few flips here and there so nothing was special about his performance
3. Solange gave me all types of life she had energy, charisma, and worked the stage…lol @ Bee and daddy in the audience gettin down and to stallion her cd is good i mean its only $8.92 at walmart lol i really like T.O.N.Y.
4.Beyonce of course tore it up wit the etta james perfomance and the performance wit justin. However, i dont know what possesed her to put the Etta wig BACK on for the final performance……..
5. I dont like the white gurl in the white pants in Just Stand up cuz i felt she was the only one that was trying to be extra….for one she was the only one that stood out with the white pants and she looked trashy and i just dont like her…i dont even know her name
all in all…i loved it, very entertaining….better than the vma’s….i didnt even watch them cuz i mean once i saw that mamma Bee wasnt on the red carpet, it wasnt gon be nuffin……ever notice that? If beyonce aint there then the show is wack! (prime example BET Awards 08)
I would think that someone that “rocked it” would have better record sales instead of flopping completely in record sales! Am just saying………
