In Case You Missed It: Barack Obama Acceptance Speech
Hey folks…so I know I’m late with this one, but I just got back today from a vacation Chicago so I’ve been out of commission. Anyway…last Thursday, August 28, 2008, Barack Obamaand Democratic Party made history as Barack became the first African American nominated by a major party for President of the United States. I know after 18 grueling months of campaigning and after he officially won the nomination several months ago it might have seemed a bit anti-climatic by that point…but nonetheless the DNC celebrated in a grand fashion truly fitting of this moment on the 45th anniversary of Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech. The final day of the convention featured an amazing speech by former VP Al Gore, fantastic performances by John Legend/Will.i.Am, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, and more. However, the night belonged to Barack Obama as 84,000 convention goers and 38,000,000+ viewers tuned in to watch him speak. More people watched Obama than the opening ceremony of the Bejing Olympics, so it just goes to show that people really understood the importance of that moment.
Barack delivered a speech that was inspirational, hard-hitting, and specific in details about his plan to turn this country around. The expectations were exceedingly high, yet he shined brighter than ever and proved that deserved to be the next President. He addressed the criticisms that have been thrown at him while still managed to uplift the American people and provide hope that we have the power to make this country better. If you haven’t already watched the speech, then take some time out and watch it. I don’t want to hear anyone popping off at the mouth who hasn’t even taken time to watch this speech. Barack made me and millions of Americans proud…and with 60 something days left til the election all I have left to say is YES WE CAN!
*I found a great mashup video that shows the parallels between Obama and Dr. King’s speeches. Click here to watch
In case you missed Jennifer Hudson’s rousing rendition of the national anthem here it is along with Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Did you watch Obama’s speech? What did that moment mean to you? Do you think it will become one of those moments that you will tell your kid years from now where you were when Barack Obama accepted the nomination?

“Martin Luther King began the fight and Barack Obama will continue it!!!
Barack and Martin Luther speeches were the best speeches I have ever heard in my life.
Barack speech was so emotional and from the heart. And am sure it got to everyone out their like it did me. He will not only become the first black president of the United States but I believe, the best president we have ever had!
It was a great speech to watch.
Reecie - What do you think of John McCain picking that girl as VP? Do you think most people will look at it as an attempt to take attention away from Obama or to draw pissed off Hilary fans to vote for him. I remember reading an article suggesting that McCain was going to take step to make sure black republican don’t switch sides. Do you think Obama people should do the same thing?
Me and my husband watched this together and when it was over I asked him if he would run for president so we can be like Barack and Michelle, LoL. I love the both of them and can’t wait until he wins so I can go party in DC in Jan!
As far as McCain’s VP, two words, political suicide! He picks a 44yr old woman who has only been in office for 19 months, with a 4 month old child with special needs and a knocked up 17 yr old daughter. She OBVIOUSLY needs to tend to her family and not worry about aiding in running the country. McCain is an idiot!
Stallion…McCain’s VP pick is a gimmick and it is backfiring big time! When I woke up Friday to the news that he had selected Palin I couldn’t have been happier. Even if her ONLY problem was only having 18 months experience as Governor it would’ve been enough to drive more people to Obama’s camp…but when you add the fact that she is under investigation for abusing her power, she and her husband are former members of the Alaskan Independence Party (which advocates the secession of Alaska from the US), her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and unmarried (and now pics have surfaced of her drinking beer with friends), she is a far right extremist, and she is remarkably and offensively unqualified for the job…this just couldn’t be better news for Obama.
I’ve been a huge Obama supporter, but I give Hillary credit for being tough and totally qualified for POTUS…Palin is supremely unqualified and I would even say potentially dangerous being one heartbeat away from the presidency.
Nicely done Presidential Nominee Obama!!!
Historic but not Iconic… AND THAT’S A GOOD THING!!!
Now, just focus on your message, fight off all attacks & win the election! THEN… then you hit us witht he speech to end all speeches on inauguration day!!!!!!!
That will be Historic AND Iconic!!!!!!!
@t reecie:
I was thinking the same thing. She really is nothing but a “gimmick” ! Not to mention that her speeches come up empty and her voice is extremely debilitating to the ear!
