Watch: Ne-Yo- Miss Independent
Ne-Yo has a new video for his song “Miss Independent”. I’m totally loving this! He could have done a typical cliche video showing women shopping, driving expensive cars, and partying at the club…but instead he channelled Eddie Murphy’s “Boomerang” and choose to highlight working women. I personally appreciate that, because those of us that work hard, have a real job, and don’t make being pretty and trying to catch a baller a profession should get more love than we do. The video really lives up to the lyrics of the song by showing that women can be independent, powerful, yet sexy at the same time. Gabrielle Union, Lauren London, and Keri Hilson all looked fabulous and made the video that much hotter. I peeped a quick cameo by Trey Songz in the video too and he is looking good with his new grown man hair cut. I’m sure the ladies will love this!
What do you guys think of the video? Doesn’t this prove that you can make a hot video without relying on half naked a$$ shaking females?

I’m not a big NeYo fan so I was hestitant about watching the video…so glad I did. Neyo has really stepped up his game. The song is nice the video went with the lyrics…nice real nice.
I love this song and video. The women look great and it def shows a different side to black women. ESPECIALLY since there is an increase of black women graduating and going corporate. It’s a GrEaT representation of black women. The only thing I don’t like about it is Ne-Yo. That thing looks like a platypus and doesn’t have the swag to carry it. At the end when he asked G Union what she had in mind I’m thinking she for d@mn sure don’t have you in mind! Eew!

I’m on the fence about the song. I’m sure if radio cram the song down my throat I will eventually like the song. I kind of like closer better.

I love this song, but the video was just ok for me. While I appreciated the fact that he was showing that women can be the boss of a corporate business, it would have been nice, if he featured women with different type of jobs too. Like hardworkn’ domestic workers, teachers ,doctors, cashiers etc…
While the women in his video were beautiful, it would have been nice, if he feat. women of all different sizes and shapes, because a lot of women bought that issue up on his sight.
I also was disappointed with the 2 seconds of air time that his male back-up dancers got. I wanted to see a lot more of them . They make his performance better and that is evident after all the praise he got for his BET performance. Tenile winning on him, was also unnecessary for a song like this.
All and all,the best part of the video was the 2 seconds of his male back-ups, “Trey’s (to short cameo), “Gabrielle’s part and of course, “Shaffer’s adorable face and sexy ass body***

Mr O, they are hard on him because they are just a bunch of jealous a*s ugly heifers that have nothing better to do than hate on a “real” gentleman. And then again, none have them, have been around a real gentleman so they don’t know one, when they see one.

Ok, after watching the most talented and sexiest artist on the planet,”Shaffer Smith” a.k.a (Ne-yo) on Friday’s 106th and park I began to get a better understanding of why he shot the video the way he did. He said that he wanted to show “Women In Position of Power”.He wanted to show women that are their own bosses that women out their could look up to and aspire to be like. No offense to the workn’ class women. His reasoning was valid and left me with a much better understanding of it! So “Kudos kudos, kudos to Shaffer for that! This song is one of my favorite Shaffer songs ever.

BTW: I really like this video! As a “Grown Ass Black Man” & not a (thug, playa, gangsta, pimp, nigga, etc…) I love to see black women shown in a positive, respectful light.
It reminded me of the movie “Boomerang”! I’m sure that’s where they got the concept. Gives me ideas about who to hire at my company!!!
