Watch: Raheem DeVaughn- Text Messages
Raheem DeVaughn has a new video for his song “Text Messages”. I fell in love with this song a while back when I posted it, so I’m happy to see that he decided to make a video for it. But before I really get into the video I just have to be an Apple snob for a second and point out that anybody with the first generation iPhone knows that you cannot flip the iPhone horizontally to write a text message…so whoever did the video was slippin on that one. Anywaaaay…the video has a little comedic (I guess I can call it that) twist at the end…..(stop reading now if you’d rather watch the vid in suspense)….which kind of takes away from the song. This vid was a chance for Raheem to step up his sex appeal game…come with something more raw and edgy and he just dropped the ball. Not to mention the fact that the plot of him mistakenly text messaging the wrong person all night makes no sense. Plus…how could a man exchange “sex messages” with a lesbian without either of them realizing it? What kind of risque messaging doesn’t include some sort of anatomical reference? (That was rhetorical). I know it’s a video so it doesn’t have to be logical, but still I can’t help but be distracted by these obvious lapses. Anyway…I’m kind of womp womp on the video, but I still love the song.
What do you guys think of the video? Isn’t the twist kind of illogical?

lmao i hope they have an excuse for all that iphone fuckery, lol like not being able to show apple’s image/product/tech/wanting to convey the text message theme more clearly …. something, cuz that was outta pocket, j/k
i felt like raheem hasnt really evolved musically or his imagery(videos) hasnt cuz it all just seems the same… this video was a bit lackluster (and it has the same boring dreary coloring of his past videos, eg.customer etc)
granted behind the melody gets major ipod play (”Butterfly” is my joint, and its sonically very different from what u typically hear from raheem)

I agree with you one hundred percent. At first,I was really getting into the video,and then bam!,the end just completely killed it for me.
It would have been better if,she came to surprise him,and she saw him kissing the other women and left without him knowing,only to find out that the other woman tried to kiss up on him and he inturn,pushed her off………….or something like that,if they wanted a sum-what twist.
All and all though, am really beginning to feel this song.I likes it!!!
