Rick Ross: When Keeping It Unreal Goes Wrong

As most of you Hip Hop fans have probably already heard, Rick Ross got put on blast for being a corrections officer before he was a rapper (Click here for more info). Instead of just saying “I was a corrections officer and now I am an ENTERTAINER, so what?”, he believed it was more appropriate to claim that he REALLY IS a drug dealer, gangster, whatever.
Now I understand that rappers feel the need to establish their street credibility in order to sell more records, but what I can’t understand is why people even believe half the words that come out of these rappers’ mouths in the first place. Why would anyone even believe that Rick Ross was a big time drug dealer to begin with? Just because he weighs 400 pounds and is tatted up, that doesn’t mean he has some super hard core past. Besides, There is NOTHING wrong with being a corrections officer and it is TOTALLY wrong to be a drug dealing gangster. If Rick Ross had any honor, any decency, and any integrity he would say as much. Instead of glorifying a lifestyle that creates destruction, he should seize this opportunity to educate people about how they shouldn’t be emulating or idolizing rappers and their lyrics. Of course that would be too much like right for a rapper to actually possess honor, integrity, and decency though so that’ll never happen.
What do you guys think? Doesn’t this situation show just how absurd it is to believe that these rappers do half the stuff they rap about? Do you think Rick Ross should’ve manned up and confessed to being a corrections officer? Am I the only one who sees how f*&ked up it is that he believes being a drug dealer is more noble than being a part of law enforcement? Do you think other Hip Hop acts will come to his defense? Will this hurt his record sales? Would Rick Ross still be boasting about dealing drugs if he was thrown in jail?

“There is NOTHING wrong with being a corrections officer and it is TOTALLY wrong to be a drug dealing gangster”.
Egg-Zact-Ly!
that fact that people are upset and in a tizzy bc he had an honest job, and were OK with the fact that he was a Drug dealer—- speaks volumes on the values/priorities/mindset of many in our community.. my people, my people, my people
i find this all ri-damn-diculous!
imma need Us (as a people) & the record/rap industry to get it together
Reecie I agree with you 100%, being a Corectional officer aint a bad thing, but Ross Lied thinking that it would hurt his credit as a Ganster Rapper. Dude most forgot that Correctional officers and cops are people that lisen to rap and and love his music, but Lie’s!!!!!!!!!!!!
I put the new CD in the trash yesterday and will turn off the radio if they play his music.
Keep it real new artist, you dont have to have a criminal record to sell records!!!!!!
lol in other related, more important news I recently saw his newest video along with this story the lady with the short hair is hot.
It’s so funny how things are so backwards. Misguided people respect the negative and ridicule the positive.
I always watch “Lockup: Extended Stay” on MSNBC, and I’m sure Rick Ross isn’t doing all the stuff he claims to be doing, because what Correctional Officer in their right mind would want to end up being in the place they work at, on the other side?
“The Farce” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqvniCAx4lk. Spin off of “The Boss”
Arent all rappers liers? Tupac, Dr ,Dre 50 Cent.
LOL… i dont believe half the stuff they say anyway…cause if i was a fed, i would be insulted that these guys rap about how they sold all these drugs…i be tryin to get them some how…lol
what is really disgusting is that lil wayne kissed a man…and still sold a million records in a week….
*listening to trilla*
I agree, telling the world thay you used to be a correction officer can’t really jeapordize your rep as a “gangster rapper.” If you are lyrically good and you deliver good albums then who really cares about what you used to do. I hate some of these rappers sometimes, I believe that they should just show us who they really are and not portray something that their not. For example Plies, he makes me so mad sometimes because he is so smart but believes that if he portarys this “goon” mentality then he will sell millions of records. It’s working now but he is a good rapper regardless and this image that he portrays dosen’t question my likes in his music. But who really cares, but dont lie about it!!!
First Akon now Rick Ross. To be honest most people don’t really believe these rapper in the first place. Rick Ross is just plan ignorant. I have a lot of friends who are rappers and they believe in order to make it they have to keep it hood and gangster.
Keeping it hood and gangster keeps you from getting a respectable job. I steer as far away from it as possible
I have an off the topic question, Is anyone going to watch CNN’s documentary “Black in America” tonight?
You could have not said it any better… He is the biggest fake that weve seen thus far!

This Blog Shit is all good until somebody gets hurt!!! Internet Gangstaz
You should listen to Fort Minor - Cigarettes..
Anyways.. This is exactly the reason I mostly listen to rappers that make fun of themselves (Spank Rock, Plastic Little) or at least don’t take themselves as serious as most of these ‘gangstas’ out there (Cool Kids).
This is why i hate hip - hop now. Everybody talking about they used to sell drugs. Weak minded young men and women feed into this and then they wanna live this life too. I work at halfway back org now. I see the effects of this type of negative fake azz life style. You got young dudes in here that can barely read but they know how to sling drugs and will argue you down the price of a kilo on the street now. They are struggling to get the G.E.D. but will tell you “hey can you google that new 645 or bentley coupe” lol.
I never believed half the crap that came out this man’s mouth. I just thought he a nice flow.
With a big-ass ‘gut’ like that,I don’t blame him for being dishonest about is past!
But he should direct his energy on more important things, like hitting the gym on a daily basis!
It this piece (Rick Ross) and stories like it, the reason why I’m trying to bring my magazine back out. It’s been a year since I last published my FREE paper and I’d like to have permission to visit your site to reprint content every now and then that will help to change, empower, and excite our community to achieve more by doing more. Is this possible?
