Watch: Jennifer Hudson “Spotlight”
Jennifer Hudson has a new video for her song “Spotlight”. I like her haircut and her whole look is fab. When I first posted this song a few months back I mentioned that I worry she sounds a little too adult contemporary and the video didn’t go far in allaying that concern. This video strikes me as a little Syleena Johnson-ish with her mannerisms and the whole vibe (Click here to see what I’m talking about). I really need her to lighten up and show the fun side of her personality and music. However, the song is aight…I can’t hate on it even if it isn’t my cup of tea.
What do you guys think of the video? Is JHud’s look/sound fresh and youthful enough?

… I really like this song. lol. This video was JHud givin it. She was really given it in this video. She annoyed me back in the day - to the fullest extent. I didn’t like the bitch. But she’s hustlin’ and doin it right. Oo - she was givin it to him on that runway! Wasn’t she! oo-wee.

i like this song and the video a lot. damn someones bitter in her posts lately *points at reecie*. she came across youthful enough for me, i would call it a “sophistication” above anything else, guarantee this chick is not the type of artist to be going to chase trends.

I love her and her music!!! I do feel like her voice is more of an old school/soul singer. Her songs are going to do well on the old school radio stations and the hip hop/top 40 are going to run her for a while but if she doesn’t do something I think they’re going to take her out of the rotation. She is wonderful though and I hope she blows up!
um jennifer hudson has always had that problem of sounding too old and lookin old, they even said that about her on american idol, but thats just her style, she just has an old sounding voice. anywayz i love the song. it probably wont go over too well for the more pop audience cuz its a mature song and has a mature sound.
This is a tough business but I dont understand why people comment os her appearance all the times. There are some people that may have a more physical appearance but as stupid as a doorknob. I think the song is hot and the video makes it all the better. i pray the song does well, if not she should continue making music for the fans that love her—young or older but she does have her acting career she can focus on. I agree with one of the other comments—girlllllll you are fabulous….Maybe her career will take the path of Queen Latifah or many many other people that are versatile. Whatever she does, she’s accompolished so much in such a short time. Aside from her winning the Oscar, this young lady won awards that others have never gotten. I think she’ll do just fine because as the song says. No indeed she doesnt want to be in someone’s SPOTLIGHT. I always mention her upcoming roles for those who arent her fans. SHE’S IN SECRET LIVES OF BEES being release in Ocotber 2008 with Queen Latifah. Shes in the process of making a film with Forrest Whitaker. Tyler Perry has singed her up for his upcoming projsct called The Family That Preys Together. Tyler was broke just a mere 8 years ago. I honestly know for a fact there isnt anyone in this business that people have their doubts about. ITS CALLED LIFE SUCH AS IT IT…..DO you girl…
