Name That Sample: Rihanna “Say It”

Rihanna has a song from “Good Girl Gone Bad” that is one of my favorite jams of the moment, called “Say It”, that samples a classic reggae joint. I’m sure a majority of her fans have no idea what song “Say It” samples, so I decided to test the lovely HM readers. So…folks, what song does she sample to create this hot track? Click on the youtube video below to listen to “Say It” , then click on “Continue Reading…” for the answer…

Drumroll…and the answer is…Mad Cobra “Flex”. “Flex” is definitely a classic, and I love how Rihanna flipped the track and updated it for 07-08. I also think it’s pretty cool how she took a very sexual song and made it into a much more subtle ”confess your crush” type track. Of course though, part of the appeal of “Say It” is the hotness that “Flex” was back in the day. So…for your viewing pleasure here is the video for “Flex. Enjoy!

Do you think Rihanna did the “Flex” sample any justice? Did you know what song she sampled before reading this post?

  1. Dag Reecie,

This is some wierd shit yo!
I was just going to tell you that Rihanna will be performing a song on the view in a minute and boom, here’s a post about her!
Anyways check it out on the view now,if you can.

  2. Yes I love that song too.loving “push up on me” and “Rehab”,and ABSOLUTELY loving “Good Girl Gone Bad”, can’t get enough of that song!

Ps: I just love her whole album,on a whole. Hope you get to see her at the festival, because it looks like I won’t get the time off and I can’t find someone to work for me.Am so sad…………….

  3. I like this song it’s kinda like a ode to the 90’s, still partial to the original but hot song.

  4. Rihanna performed “take a bow” on the view, and stepped it up a bit.It actually sounded better than it does on cd.The beat seemed a little faster.Loving that song!

Ps: if u missed the performance, you might can catch it on u-tube.And catch her and Ne-yo on the B.E.T awards tonight!

  5. I have to admit I couldnt guess and I know the song Flex. My sister and her friend remade this into a song appropriate for our Christian School. It became a song about breakfast.

This is a nice song, was it ever released as a single? Id take this over take a bow anyday

  6. Classic song this Flex business… but Rihanna is my girl … she got the new age and Fire ready to burn up the competition.

Name that sample sound like a hip hop game show. Maybe you can host it Reecie.

  9. Am sorry Reecie, for putting so many comments on this one post but I just had to share this with the rest of you.

According to reports, Ne-yo and Chris Brown is beefing with each other, over comments that Chris supposedly said about him.Ne-yo followed by writing his own version of “A Milli”,as a diss song directed towards Chris.
Here is some verses of Ne-yo’s song:

“You may make a million, more than me.but you don’t have a million more than me…..
You’re girlfriend favorite song is mine…..My middle name is ‘more bread’ and my last name is ‘Than your bread’.

This shit is so Hilarious to me,and I hope its only a rumor, but it doesn’t look like it to me.

this rihanna song is bullshit. neyo’s jump on the a millie track was a joke. who does he think he is. it was laughable man pure wackery at its finest. my ears bled.

  10. You ever thought, that maybe, Ne-yo didn’t intend on making a serious track! lol

Ps: he could be just blowing,Off some steam. But anyways,I still admire Shaffer a lot!

  11. And Rihanna song/album was was Hot!
Shaffer thinks he’s a better artist than Chris, and I’d have to agree with Shaffer on this one, even though I think Chris is good to.But not better.
