Usher Goes Off on Gossip Folks on MTV’s TRL
Usher put the smack down on people trashing his wife on yesterday’s TRL. I think it’s quite noble for Usher to stick up for his wife, but how does the saying go? He ”doth protest too much”. I don’t think people say anything about his wife than what is said about any other celebrity in this day and age…that doesn’t make it right at all, but a lot of people live under scrutiny and have to deal with non-stop gossip. Some (like Brad and Angelina) take it in stride and focus on the more positive things, and some let it get to them. Nonetheless, more power to him for speaking his mind and standing up for what is important to him.
What do you guys think of Usher’s outburst? Was it really that serious? Isn’t the best way to keep your personal life out the tabloids is to not invite people into your personal life to begin with (vs. granting Essence Magazine several interviews and a pictorial)?

PS- Thanks HM Reader Akeila for the tip.

It was kind of funny to watch him go off in a rant like that. The Host was like this negro have lost his mind. I hope for the sake of the kids that this marriage last but I think a lot of people are skeptic about these kind of relationship and celebrity marriage aren’t really famous for lasting a long time. The position Usher is in right now is kind of similar to Paul McCartney and Heather Mills and look how that turned out. Paul was saying the exact samething about his wife that Usher is saying about his wife now. One celebrity relationship I believe will last is Will and Jada. I’m surprise Usher didn’t go off on that punk ass bitch Perez Hilton. At the sametime some of these people like Perez Hilton and other gossip magazine have a reputation of being pretty reliable and quick with news so we probably shouldn’t dismiss it all as a crazy tabloid story.
Some people say that female stars have it harder than male stars. My advice for Usher is don’t let his personal life or behavior over shadow his art. I believe right now Usher fans want to hear more about his music than his personal life.
I don’t know Stallion,
As much as we want to hear Usher’s music, being the person that he is, we cant help but want to pry into his personal life too. Its the price you pay for being in the limelight, you can’t take the good without the bad.
I knew he would address the situation eventually. The whole situation is obviously getting to him, everyone’s making his wife out to be some crazy hag who came in and ruined his life.
Was this the best way to handle the situation… maybe not. Can you blame him? I dont.
Seems like everyones taking cheap shots at poor Tameka these days.
I say,about time Ushr!
And paul and his wife Mills are two different” individuals,so they should not be compared to Ursh and his wife!
Tameka Raymond,is “A Woman” and heather mills is nothing but a money grubbing two cents hoe!
The tabloids and a lot of Ursh fans have just been so mean to Tameka, that it is so unimaginable! They call her ugly, and old among other undesirable names.
Brad and Angelina have always been called the “gorgeous couple” and have gotten more praise than disses.Mariah is much older than Nick and so is Eva Longora to Tony Parker, but yet still people don’t talk negatively about them as much.(They are the ideal,”pretty couple”,in societies eyes)…………..
If Tameka looked like Chillie,(who was older than Ursh to) people would have a different view about their relationship!
Tameka is an older, dark skinned, unattractive woman,to a lot of people out their and those people think that Ursh should have married someboby better looking like him.that’s pure bs to me. Ant nothing wrong with that woman and I personally think that ,and hope they last forever.
I hope Ursh does not end up letting society dictate is life and eventually calling it quits with Tameka!
Ps: I just love seeing two black people, celebrity or not, together, lasting forever. I was raised in a home, were I’ve never seen a real fight between my mother and step-father. They never cheated or went to bed angry with each other.their love was,and is still unconditional! So their fore I wish that for other couples out their, esp black people (stall)”,because so many of us,break up with each other, either because we let society dictate our lives or because we choose not to work it out!
Oh ya,thanks Akeila”
For giving Reecie that link, because after viewing,it,it only strengthen my admiration For Ursh!
“A true gentleman”
usher comes off as a weak fragile black man who’s been pushed into a corner by his wife tameka who obviously has planted the seeds of paranoia in his mind. when he rants about trivial issues such as this it implies what is already a known certainty- sure there were cracks at the start and it still remains despite the new baby and that everything is not as in house as it could have been, sooner or later it will become official because the more you talk about it the more the lies begin to shine. there are forums for this type of thing - the best way to possibly address all these concerns and haters was through the album, every emotion he was feeling should have been in there, every thought, amount of love he feels for his wife should have been in there, everything that has happened in the past 4 years, all his energy, sweat and amount of angst should have been transferred into making the album as solid as it could have been – that should have all have been in there - this is the thing that really annoys the shit outta me, if it was all good then the album should have reflect that - instead of taking a stand he came off as childish, testing the patience of observers and supplying the media with more shit to write about - what he did instead was distract people from how mediocre the new album was and masking it — everything about this TRL appearance should have been geared towards the promotion of the album, talking about the album, the video and the motivation behind the album concept, the type of songs on there and the direction overall so that haters can see what perspective he was coming from - that in my eyes would have shown a level of maturity unbecoming and maybe tip me or others over into liking the album even more than what I or others initially did. did he shock the world? yes with that arrogance. did he do it on the album? no. see where im coming from. taking care of a woman is growing up? In what context though? thats very debatable. ur mother took care of you and helped you grow in more ways than one – they say that a child is a mirror of the parent and everything that is put into his mind or which fed his soul is a reflection of the input a parent has made to the contribution of a child or an adult’s growth – if your not grown by the time you’ve found the one or your wife, then obviously 1) the parent hasn’t done their job well enough or 2) the adult is obviously mentally unstable, deluded or living in a fantasy and not yet willing to face the harsh realities that exist in this world and shouldnt even be thinking about getting into a relationship or thinking about conceiving any kids. the way you act when you get married should initially change, im not talking about not having fun, but expectations about you are changed, socially and responsibily.
Vu,what did Ursh do to you,to have you hating on him like that!
Ps: and hes not gona stop, just because, people in the world watching them, cause they don’t give a dam what people say…..
Viciuzurban,
I could probably address a couple of things you said there but for now just the last part…
I think Usher meant that he grew up in the sense that he realized that he was ready for the responsibility of a wife and family. Taking care of a woman entails more than just providing the necessities of life, you have to be there for her physically, emotionally, ect. Not being ready for that doesn’t make you ‘mentally unstable’ as you say. He just may not have been ready for that responsibility before this point in his life.
Ooh and no problem Reecie and JW, I couldn’t let you guys not see it.
akeila - Quick question. As an Usher fan what do you find more interesting. News about him recording a track with Jay Z or news about his wife being a possible gold digger?
VU…very interesting observations. I can see where you are coming from in the sense that when I saw the video the first thing I thought was like I said in the post “he doth protest too much”. Basically…if everything is all good and wonderful and lovely, then why such a heated and totally umprompted response? It almost makes you wonder if things really aren’t what they seem. But…whatever the case, he certainly has every right to stick up for his family though and I wish the best for him.
first off jamaican woman…
i do not think it is because she is a dark skin, unattractive woman. it is because people simply do not like her and probably admire her for getting usher. their are plenty of dark skin women who people like and i am personally tired of that excuse. You talk about how she is not a goldigger and this and that, but do you know Tameka, have you met Tameka to know is she is or isnt. that goes for people calling her a goldigger too. and she is and older woman and they did marry quick and she does have kids. these are true statements. so i think before you go judging why people do not like her look at all the facts. and also people do talk about Mariah Carey and Nick…and they do it alot.
and usher did kind of just go off the wall for a minute there. he did not look like he wanted to stop the rumors. but looked like the rumors were getting to him. however, i do commend him for stick by her side.
Stallion….
Personally, I’m all about the music. Moretimes I couldn’t care less what’s going on in the lives of the rich and famous. Plus I’m not too sure how reliable most sources are, so I take everything with a grain of salt.
I wasn’t refering to myself in my first comment, I shouldn’t have said ‘we’ i guess. But there are people who LIVE for this kind of gossip, and with an icon like Usher, these kind of situations are inevitable.
..that’s all i meant.
nohate08,
Tameka is my sister………..you didn’t know?
Ps:don’t bother answering me,because I could care less of your opinion, and even lesser about what you or any one else for that matter thinks about me!!!!
Ursh,is appearing on good moring America tomorrow morning, for all you true Ursh admirers!
Usher and Tameka are not the first couple to have gotten flack from the media. It’s an unfortunate part of the media circus that comes along with celebrity. In many effects it enhances their cache. Besides a weird stuck at 12 years old Dawson’s Creek fanatic, would any one really care about Katie Holmes, had it not been for Tom Cruise? Actually, Usher’s little episode reminds me a bit of Tom Cruise’s jumping on the couch moment. Definitely not as extreme or in reaction to the same type of hype, but still *hella funny.* I wouldn’t be surprised if this ended up on The Soup or The Best Week Ever. Also, I’m a little conflicted on him using it as a platform for African American males taking care of their family. I do understand there is a problem within the black community, and I think that the standard should be married two parent households with both parents present (cus sometimes they’re married and one parent still absent if you get what I mean) but if I hear him on one more show patting himself on the back for being a black man that done right, I may have to hit my lappy. It’s great that there is a counter image but must he say it on each show? Maybe I wouldn’t have the same issue if he did it on 106 and Park (or better yet Tavis Smiley), but thats probably my own issues with public forums and intra-community based race issues.
Personally, I don’t care about Usher and Tameka’s life, but I can’t say that I’ve never bought into celebrity circus hype. The first time I purchased an issue of Vanity Fair was the Jennifer Aniston, post Brad Pitt issue because I was so intrigued as to why Vanity Fair got the dibbs and what could possibly be revealed in their magazine that was so exclusive. The answer was nothing,I don’t remember one point about their break up, but I fell in love with the magazine none-the-less and its now in my top 5 magazines for their coverage on a variety of issues. Magazines and tabloids and television shows have all out pricing wars over this sort of information. Even the last royal wedding in England had their pictures bid on, much to the dismay of the British people. You can take the Jay-Z and Beyonce route and blatantly let it be known that you won’t comment. But no one’s safe, and if you don’t speak, people will speculate, hate and in a few rare cases appreciate.
Just finished watching,Ursh perform in Bryant Park on “good morning America” and “in my opinion”,it was a good performance!
Its worth checking out.
Ps:only thing missing was Jeezy.
And congrats Ursh
for having the No.1 song in the country right now……….
(Well deserved)
oh i see you are just a die hard usher stan…and there was no need to get rude.
