Lots of love is definitely in the air this spring…I don’t remember a time when there was so much Black Star Power Coupledom going on. I’m digging this new relationship/commitment trend, since I think the whole glorified playa/mack thing is hella played out. So…I decided to dedicate a post to the lovebirds. First up…
Nelly and Ashanti have kept a really low “couple” profile…and they definitely seem more like a publicity couple than the real thing…but they still look cute together. They were spotted out the other night having dinner.
Rihanna and Chris Brown were spotted getting extra cozy at KFC of all places! I think these two make a super cute couple, and they are definitely the hottest young couple on the scene.
Jay-Z and Beyonce (aka Mr. & Mrs. Carter) were partying it up a few days ago at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club. I’m wondering if and when the wedding pics are going to come out and and if when they will start wearing their wedding rings.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon stepped out in their first public appearance as a couple/husband and wife last night. They actually make a cute couple and they definitely take the crown for the most talked about celebrity couple right now. Everyone wants to know…is it real? Is it fake? I read the People mag article and they sounded head over heels in love. I’m a sucker for love, so I hope for the best for both of them.

pfffft the institution of marriage is so fucked up these days. marriage needs a new defintion, one without the bs christian attachments. no lets just get rid of marriage and people can determine what they want out of it. its ridiculous the attempts people go to profit their nuptials. look at that bimbo paris hilton and nicole richie and the fags they are married to. pffft wtf is up with celebrities these days. and they wonder why kids fail today. lack of priorities and letting tv and celebrities dictate what they do.

Ashanti and Nelly are the hottest couple IMO. They may not flaunt their relationship every single chance they get, but that’s what I like about them. They’re not all over each other trying to get attention for publicity reasons or whatever. They genuinely love each other. They look the best together as well.

Well I can’t say I agree with you all about marriage. I think marriage the institution still means a lot, it’s just that people are so interested in instant gratification they hop in and out of it and treat it like it is meaningless.

the institution has erroded, its no longer relevant, perpetuates and flourish disclusion when it should embrace inclusion, discriminates againsts gays, forces people into corners and is fundamentally flawed. phenomenon’s such as covenant marriage do not fit into todays modern society and into the moral thinking of people inhabiting this earth. the only way people can tied each other together for life is if they resort to what the egyptians did back circa - one spouse dies, the other spouse has to be buried alive with the deceased. i dont think thats going to happen in modern society.

On the marriage issue, since i have parents that have been married for years, i believe in the institution. I just believe (as Reecie said) people expect instant gratification. My parents marriage is no where near perfect, however i am tried of hearing people 40 or younger, go through a couple weeks of arguing and get a divorce or separated. Every person that have been married for 20+ years says marriage is work and you have to continue to work on it, however people think of marriage as if it is dating. I think maybe it is b/c so many people are growing up in single parent homes and never see the the ups and downs of a committed couple and have the proper perspective on what it takes to last for years. Everyone that i have meet that is anti-marriage, tend to grew up in a single home or had some real issues in their home and now they are an adult they are bitter and their rejection of marriage is just a reflection of insecurities leftover from childhood.

I say Beyonce and Jay is the hottest couple. Like them or not, they’ve been together for 6 years, which is unheard of in the industry. None of us know how ‘real’ these couples’ love is, but 6 years is a long time to prove whether it’s real or not. What’s even hotter is that they can take that chemistry amd make great music. They’re the standards in their respective genres, and they’re the true King and Queen.
As for the other couples…
Rihanna & Chris Brown - Only time will tell if their bond can last. They’re young. I thought I was in love at that age, but time sure does changes things. I wish them well.
Ashanti & Nelly - They also keep a closed door on their relationship, which is good in my opinion. Their collaborations haven’t had the same success of Beyonce and Jay’s, but there’s definitely chemistry there.
Mariah & Nick Cannon. - I just don’t believe this. I’m sorry. If Beyonce and Jay got married in ‘02/’03, I wouldn’t believe it either. The other couples took their relationship slow, while Nick and Mariah is shooting videos and magazine covers weeks after dating. Look at Nick in that picture. It looks like a prom picture, not ‘we just made love in the car.’ Mariah shouldn’t be able to walk so soon after her honeymoon, but what’s to expect when you spend most of your wedding night taking photos then consummating the marriage. Only time can convince me otherwise.
