Watch: Ne-Yo “Closer”
Ne-Yo has a new video for his song “Closer”. Even though the video takes place in a typical plain sound stage, he actually managed to make it more visually interesting with the different “special” (which is probably a strong word) effects. Ne-Yo said he is planning on veering away from his strictly R&B sound by going a bit more pop and dance than usual. Right now the pop/dance music is dominating music charts so it’s a risk that might pay off. I can’t really call it if this song will be a big hit though. It came out a few weeks ago and I haven’t heard it on the radio once. I think the song’s success is really going to depend on how much the MTV crowd digs it, because I would be surprised if this goes over big with the 106 & Park crowd.

Haha I thought I hated this song for some reason - then I listened to it again and was like - awwwh this aint slow, this is an upbeat track! Almost as like a “Can We Chill” prt2, lightweight, which happens to be my all-time favorite Ne-Yo track for some reason.
Girl, I thought this was a club remix when I first heard it! I thought some little gay-boy DJ got on the track and hyped it up… I was VERY suprised when I learned Ne-Yo had actually turned this track out himself for single-release.
He’s following suit from Rihanna’s smash hits with her dance-ready songs like “Dont Stop The Music”, along with tracks like “Push Up On Me”, and “Shut Up And Drive”.
Danity Kane have also shown possitive results from contributing to the dance scene.
Mariah as well as Janet have fallen into the dance/pop circle (Janet, which of whom, is not that far-removed from).
Michelle Williams is the most recent and heavily influenced of all recent artists, portraying more of an edgy side of herself as well as her vocal abilities.
Akon has been producing a lot of heavy-dance songs lately too, one of which is Leona Lewis’ new song added to her US CD release, “Forgive Me” (which sounds a lot like Whitney’s old school 80s tracks ala “I’m Your Baby Tonight”, “I Wanna Dance W. Somebody”, and “How Will I Know?”).
The 80s catchy pop scene infused with 70s disco-glam are etching their way back into mainstream.
Is this the end of a soul-era? Are the soul-artists losing their ground? I think that society, as of now, are done with sounds of the 90s. The first major test of this theory has came from none other than Diddy himself - as we can see, DK did much better than Day26. One represents the R&B of yesterday, and the other represents a new scene taking hold of society’s audiences today.
this shit is whack— it doesnt even seem like a video, it seems like behind the scene footage of the actual video
and i find it incredibly corny when videos spell out the lyrics to the song— added insult is that the typography used was wayyyy off
this could of been a hot video if it had direction or an actual video treatment, cuz the the song aint half bad
This song isn’t bad. Nothing special but I can see myself liking it after hearing it a few more times on the radio. Look like Neyo will be following in the trend instead of being a leader. The dancing kind of remind me of Michael Jackson. The song is pretty cool.

Anyways I just love that song.It may not be my favorite one of his but it still rocks like heck!This is a much different type of song for Ne-yo but it works.
