Thumbs Up or Down: Ashanti sings “God Bless America” at World Series
So I know this all happened last week, but I couldn’t resist another edition of thumbs up or down. Previously, we heard an on the cuff church rendition of Amazing Grace and the Star Spangled Banner from Keyshia Cole. She got mixed reviews both times…but now it’s on a to a new singer, Ashanti. I was surprised to hear that she was selected to sing “God Bless America” at the World Series, since she hasn’t exactly been known as the best singer in the world…but she actually did a pretty good job. I always thought that Ashanti was more talented than she got credit for (having seen her perform live)…but she rose to ocassion. However, since Ashanti’s voice isn’t everyone’s cup of tea…I’m curious to see what you guys think..Thumbs up or thumbs down?

A long time ago I watched Ashanti diara on MTV and she did a lot of acappella and I was impressed with it. She isn’t a Mariah Carey but she does have a nice voice. Could Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Ciara and other artists like her perform god bless America live that well? I guess this performance put her above those other female artists but I’m being a little bit harsh.
I’m glad Ja Rule didn’t sing it with her.

Good one…at the very least, it does remind people that she does have a nice voice and she can carry a note (unlike Cassie). However…I have to interject that Janet Jackson has a very pretty voice. It’s not a powerhouse, but she can still sing.
On a serious note that performance was pretty good. If she had more nice ballard where she sings like that than I’m going to have to buy her new album. You may not like the sound of her voice but at least she can sing.
On a side note I saw an old video of Britney Spears singing on star search and she was pretty good. I wonder what happened to that voice she used to have. Was it to broadway or something?

that note she held was so off lol… but even with that said she did pretty good… not a mariah or aguilera or mary…but did ok… i saw her diary also…and for some reason she sounds much better accapoco (acapella)… u should hear diary and listen to how she blazed a mary j song when she was walkin down the hall…she gets props from taurean for this one.

I’ve seen her do well live..Ashanti can’t dance but she has a nice voice to me and I love her voice on a ballad.
I got to tell you, I was expecting a lot worse. I was preparing myself to cringe and be embarrassed. I think she did a pretty good job. I was not cringe worthy at all. She has risen about 5 levels in my book. Well done!
Thunbs down!!!… The girl cannot sing… There is a big difference between holding a note and singing… She can hold a note… but she cant sing!
We need to stop giving these “singers” credit for being able to stay on key for MOST of the performance. I’m sorry … Ashanti just sounds bad. Girl is yelling, not singing. If she gets any points for this performance, her record contract should be yanked immediately. There are plently of people in the world that could sing circles around this girl that are working hard and grindin’ for a record deal. Why don’t we invest in real talent anymore?

Ashanti sounded amazing. Give the Girl the credit..She can really sing now. I know music and she hit every note with poise and grace.

I’m sorry, but Janet Jackson cannot sing. She is a great dancer, but that’s it. Post a video of her ACTUALLY singing. Who knows-I may be wrong. But I think Ashanti did an o.k. job. I was expecting it to be bad.
