Beyonce - Flaws and All
The best one by far…I wish Beyonce made more music like this. What do you think? Has this been the best video and song that has leaked from the B-Day re-release?
I think she’s sexy in it because she doesn’t really mean to be…like, it’s supposed to be sweet and cute. Which isn’t to say she isn’t sexy when she’s writhing on the ground. I just like this better.

very nice video…ITS DA ROC. lmao….nice lyrics as well
She’s so riding Jay.
wow…she’s actually a person!–and we have video evidence to prove it!
WooooW!!!! I have a whole new respect for my girl B. I agree, the best video i’ve seen of hers…….EVER!!!!! It does show her as a person and not the glamorfied diva we be seeing on the red carpets. Maybe I will buy the new release.
“leaked from the B-Day re-release?”
It’s been in stores for a while.
i like this video..it has to be the most original vid shes came up with so far
I’m just going to have to say that Me Myself and I video tops all her videos. It’s not even just good amongst HER videos, it’s excellent relative to all videos. You may disagree with me but that’s cause you’re stupid - if you do agree, that’s because you’re a genius, like me.
yOU MIGHT WANNA POST THIS

NEW LINKIN PARK SINGLE, ITS ON MY BLOG TOO
I really like this video… she does look extra sexy without all of the photo flashes and shining jewelry on.
I had actually begun to get tired of the glitzy Beyonce and wasn’t really thinkin she was the “hottest chick in the game” anymore. This video definitely puts her back on top. The song is VERY GOOD! Beyonce singin on a topic with some substance? Keep it going! She could set herself apart from the rest by going this route.
yes flaws and all indeed. yet her weave and makeup are impeccably done, and she’s prancing around in haute couture. way to go au naturel bey.
PLUH-EZZ! In the Me, Myself & I video that dumb ass chick said the line about having 3 kids in her home while she threw up FOUR fingers. Get da fuck outta here with it being the best video. If you consider an idiot who can bounce her ass around and slither on the floor great then you have below standards. Great is Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill (the MisEducation) or lets see…….. Barak Obama! Certainly NOT Bouncy!
#12-name and #13- cousinit - so true. who is natural with a weave. this is the beyonce butt kissing website. this weave wearing hoochie could never set an example for black women; but to ho stroll girlz she’s got the moves and look. thank you for the truth.
Great is Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill and Barack Obama… no doubt about that. I think we were all comparing this Beyonce to the Beyonce of past. Problem?
Cute….
I think it would have been nice if Beyonce really showed herself “Flaws and All” but I don’t think its realistic. Beyonce is someone who really tries to keep things a secret, do you really think she would want people seeing her with barely any hair(cause that’s what it really is) and no make up? Highly doubtable. I think you should just take the video for what it is. I just wanna know if Ne-Yo wrote this too, cause homie got the hits!! He is seriously one of the biggest talents out there.
Im not a huge fan of Beyonce but I do like some of her music. She is an overrated artist and its gotten to the point where she bores me now. I think artists do need to take a break. An anthology dvd should have been much later in the year. Somethimes I think she assumes her fans are going to forget her or something but anyways out all the boring videos she has made so far for the anthology, I agree this is the cutest and shes not trying hard to be some sex symbol (however, I cant stop thinking about that black and white Janet Jackson video). I actually like this song alot. ‘Flaws and All’ good song now for a break….
I’ve Read every comment some of you are just straight hating, get a life. Moving on I love the song and I love the video. It shows Beyonce in a new light, she’s more relatable now. I use to feel sorry for her becuase to me she seemed like a puppet being constantly control by her Father and Mother. I really hope she lets us see more of this Beyonce, because it is really nice. Oh and Ne-yo did write and produce the song along with beyonce.
hey get it right Shea taylor produced the song and Neyo wrote it. I kniow first hand because Shea Taylor is my best freind and I heard the song b4 it hit stores. More to vome watch out. great song
Comment 13 - oh, really? hahaha, that’s funny. I didn’t really notice that detail with the fingers. Anyway, I liked that video, it looked great with the telling a story in reverse thing and … WAIT A MINUTE! - Below Standards? (maybe), regardless, fuck you
The video is hot.. and the song is even hotter!!! I’ve read al lthe messages on here.. I think everyone having a different opinion is cool. Everyone is not supposed to agree, but dang, yall ain’t got to be so cruel!! If she wears weave that’s her business. One thing yall can’t take from her is that she is an outstanding singer and entertainer…and her acting aint all that bad either. I can’t tell you to stop hatin cause it is your opinion but ummm..if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. And ummm.. Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott are a completely genres of music.. you can’t compare Beyonce to them. I listen to ALL types…different is good! Calm down PLEASE!! Yall gettin worked up over something that is waaaaaaaaaaay beyond your control. Only person you can control is you and it doesn’t look like you’re doing a good job at that!! LOL
Comment 13 & 22 - I’m just kidding. I’m gonna go ride my bike now.
I Love this song soooooooooooooooooo much, and BEYONCE you look very nice in this video it captures a different side of B that no one has ever saw and I love it and i love you
co-sign on #22.
but yea - beyonce is overrated and she takes too much credit for her work. in my job, id get fired for plagiarism…in beyonce’s world, she get mo money mo money mo money
the concept of flaws and all is not about her physical flaws but personality flaws and quirks. What does that have to do with her wearing a weave and make-up? which singer is going to do a vid looking like they just woke up without their hair did and no make-up? I think she looks gorgeous and the song is lovely.
good points maria…a lot of insignificant hatin out in these streets
The video is fun to watch…she’s havin fun…nothin skanky or wack about this video..just a young girl doin her thing and spittin some real lyrics…i like the vintage, charlie chaplin-esque type reel
the song is beautiful. i have been listening to it on near repeat (with breaks for Drought 3).
Louis Harris-Tench: Irreplaceable - Beyonce
…
whoa whoa, Love is what she is speaking about…ever had it? If so…walk with me… There is an insecurity that you feel when your with that person, because you are completely open and exposed this is what B is displaying in the video her vulnerbility. you haters better be glad your getting at least that!! and on top of that she is speaking souly(pun intended) to one person PUBLICLY, she is sharing herself with us, how many of us can do that. She knows people are going to jump to conclusions but she also knows that God gave her a blessing and she shares that with us, her weave and all, now how real is that??? hey don’t get it twisted I’m no carpet munching star struck hippo, just a women whos knows what it feels like to be loved. One love, harmony and smiles
I love Beyonce, I am originally from Colombia where Shakira was born and I admire good performers, artistically gifted.
[...] Beyonce- Flaws And All, Still In Love Kissing You, Upgrade U, Beautiful Liar Filed under: R&B/Soul, Video, Music [...]
I am sure beyonce is not up posting messages about us so who is really star????
Loving the track. It’s my fav. I am still listening to it.
Beyonce is not overrated. What female does it better than her right now? None. If she steals, then so does all of these other R&B and Hip hop artists. Rap is nothing but samples right now. Some of you don’t hold the same standard to other artists as you do with Beyonce - or at least you don’t comment out loud on it. If Beyonce stole, she would be facing litigation.
I love Jill Scott & Lauryn Hill A LOT. (I really, really do.) But where are they? This is now. I can say they can’t compare to artists before them, but that’s such a cop out. Who can you compare Beyonce to who’s putting out music now? Not many. Plus their styles are quite different.
thehonorable - I can compare side by side this blog with others and find the same/very similar content. Does that mean its stolen or borrowed directly? No. I don’t know how or the circumstances of how material is gathered. I would never question this blog’s practices. I have to do the same for Beyonce and other artists. If you feel ever artist has to write & create their own material - you’ve just knocked out 98% of the r&b/pop world and 50% or the rap world. Aren’t we all overrated?
“thehonorable - I can compare side by side this blog with others and find the same/very similar content. Does that mean its stolen or borrowed directly? No. I don’t know how or the circumstances of how material is gathered. I would never question this blog’s practices.”
I think there’s a difference between reporting on things that happen…i.e. posting new videos, songs, gossip, etc…and actually making the videos, songs, etc. My take is that unless you go out and take the photos, create the songs, or sh!t even create the scandals…you don’t own the content…we just own our opinions.
At any rate…I don’t think Bey is overrated, probably overexposed…but she is tremendously talented. She’s a person that really works on her craft and has a killer work ethic.
And far as Bey claiming to write stuff that she doesn’t well who really cares.
I agree Reecie.
“And far as Bey claiming to write stuff that she doesn’t well who really cares.”
Right! She’s an awesome entertainer and music figure and she stands out as being one of the best in Pop in the last 5-10 years as far as worldwide appeal and influence. She has a lot more to conquer. I’m interested to see her development as a young adult. I hope she continues to stay on the straight and narrow.
People find so many insulting things to say about her but she hasn’t done an iota of the craziness that 78% of these celebrities be doin’
Also, to a great extent, writing makes a musician so much more potent and respected. Thats why we can call Prince, Michael Jackson, Luther, Teddy Riley and ems geniuses in their own regard cause they actually wrote stuff. It just sets one musician apart from another.
People like Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige have had tons of writers for em but they sure do kill songs. At the end of the day, its all about the talent behind the music. We gotta give respects to talent folks.
Ave-
“I can compare side by side this blog with others and find the same/very similar content.”
But you definitely won’t find blogs with awesome, intelligent, focused, ambitious, positive, and integrity- driven contributors such as us!!! lol…I hear what you’re sayin Ave but like R said, there may be similar posts but the content and quality of opinions/discussions highly differ between the blogs. Needless to say, I’d say we pride ourselves with not just posting music and entertainment. Do frequent the blog more and you’ll see the difference.
^^^True that last paragraph
I like Beyonce in this video. I don’t know why wearing a weave is such a surprise to a lot of people. There are so many people in this world wearing weave. Think about it…Rihanna, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton(not that great of an example) so she doesn’t really stick out because of her weave. She can sing and dance. She’s a great entertainer. But I have to agree, she does exploit women. But so did Tupac, Lil’ Kim, Biggie, Ne-Yo, etc. The list is soooooo long. So stop hatin’. Get over it.
Beyonce is da best eva! I’m going to her concert dis April!!!! SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!
I luv dis music video as she shows real character and it’s B being B. It’s cute and sweet in a way with attitude which i luv to bitz! I think she is goofy and fun in it and i like dat side of her! KEEP ROCKIN’ Beyonce! From ur girl Toni
P.S. The movie Dreamgirls is real cool like a broadway show! Encore!!!!
I LUV YA! xxoo Toni
In this video you can clearly see this is not the way she acts. If she does act like that, then she is a little mentally challenged. I think beyonce is trying to stay on top of her game a little to hard. She lived her life in the public eye (not negatively). Being on T.V. is all she know. I think she made all of those videos because she’s probably trying to find a different character for her fans to relate to. Because the sexy look was getting a little boring. She’s a great performer, but she’s not real like she claims she is. She has 2 separate lives and it’s probably driving her crazy. Her parents did’t allow her to act the way she wanted, so now that she is on her own you see that if she would have done this by herself she would have gotten anywhere acting like that. Nothing is wrong with her video. But she is not keeping it real to her fans. Beyonce was trained in everthing that she does. She was trained to sing of course, she was trained to dance, she was trained to talk, she was trained to know how to act to the public. All she is, is a made up person. She’s a pretender. And in this video she is pretending to be i don’t know what. You seen many celebrities without make up and without the hair weave, but you never can catch beyonce like that. She may say i dont care what people think of me, well if it like that then be natural. Beyonce needs to really be herself. Nothing about her seems natural. But i still like her though.
I agree with SHANISE’S comment. Beyonce is too made up. Now I aint tryna hate and what not, and i LOVE this video, though what the comment said before me has a point. I AM one of Beyonce’s fans, I think she’s talented, a wonderful entertainer and very beautiful…it just seems to me as if she’s a puppet in her own life. I’ve seen so many documentaries and interviews about Beyonce that it aint funny. Each one has basically summed up that she has been brought up by her parents to be the person she is now. She doesn’t have a life of her own. Her only friends that anyone really knows of is the DC crew - Kelly and Michelle -, her sister - Solange -, and her BF Jay-Z. I mean has anybody ever heard her go out to a party or what not without atleast one of them or her parents around? Even on the Tyra show she mentioned that her mom was always entering her in beauty pageants and song contests of which she would win trophies for - once her sister got so jelous she busted one up wondering why she didn’t have any? (another example of her controlled life - her parents must have focused so much on Beyonce they had little time for Solange. No wonder why she married and had a son - she had something that Beyoncedidnt have for once) To me it wasn’t a suprise when her mom and sister came out during the show. I wonder if she ever wants to be alone?. If i was her i’d feel so trapped - in both tryna please her parents as well as making time for herself and her needs. Either way if she keeps doing what she doing she will continue to be GREAT. ONCE AGAIN I AINT TRYNA HATE!! just being real. Beyonce is absolutely fabolous - she is definately a legend in the making. This video shows she’s tryna come out bout herself - tryna be real - though is limited to what she can say. With songs like this i think the only real competition she coulda had is if Aaliyah was still alive. Then again would Beyonce be this big if Aaliyah was around??
Hey Beyonce I’m a big fan of yours you are my idol I’m 15 years old and i love to sing you are the best your girl pooh bear signing off *bye*
If any body hatin on beyonce yall needs to stop because yall know the girl can blow. All I’m sayin is to stop hating.I know yall wondering who this is talking all that smack.I’m 11 years old and I know all about Beyonce and her life.Beyonce is my girl and yall cant change that.I aint got time for it.Beyonce is the best in that video so stop ya hatin and start appreciating. .*bye ya girl Jhanel.*
Sure the video is in black and white but thats the style now.*.b.*y.*e.*
What is it with people wanting to point out things like a weave. Im a white man in a relationship with a Black Woman who wears her hair natural. From the videos Ive seen of Beyonce as a little girl, she had long hair. But who cares. She tends to look great. Im not a Beyonce fan at all and happen to think that she is overrated but no more overrated than Madonna, Britney Spears or Halle Berry. All of them mediocre but thrive because of marketing good or bad. Beyonce is a GOOD talent however. Shes definitely not a talent like Whitney Houston or Shirley Bassey nor does she command the stage presence of a Diana Ross. I wouldnt say she’s great but she does know how to entertain. She however is a reflection of her time. Superficiality with no distinction of ethnic group or culture. The fear of being unique and outcasted. Sometimes I cant tell Jlo from Shakira, from Beyonce but lets get out of her hair folks. We could go alot deeper about hair than a weave. Being with a Black Woman Ive become aware of the deep issues that Blacks have with hair and skin color so much so that White people such as myself now know about it. Black Americas concept of Good Hair just blows my mind with laughable sadness. Hell, isnt it her own people who promote her to keep her hair STRAIGHT. THE VERY PEOPLE WHO KNOCK A WEAVE DONT MIND HER KEEPING HER HAIR BLONDE AND STRAIGHT. THATS DEEP. I personally think alot of Black women kill their great beauty with opting for that stringy mess. Not saying that Black Women shouldnt wear straight hair. Naomi is hot with her long mane. Isnt it also her own folks who praise Black women who resemble something else other than Black. My girlfriend is Darkskinned and talks about how her skin color is never embraced by the race whos name is BLACK. Shes also talked about her once need to keep her hair straight in order to be attractive to a Black Man. THATS DEEP considering it promotes what was born out of consequence to the slave trade. Self Hatred. Ive read up alot of people like Willie Lynch who predicted so much of what is occurring today. he said that Black Men would eventually prefer the image of a White Woman. It was planned out to contribute to White power. Hell….shes doing what sells. How many Black men do you know who like Black women for who they are. As sad and sick as it is, I wonder if Jay Z could accept her if she chose to lose the blonde hair and go darker and more afrocentric. And consequently, the world responds. If Blacks promote something as not beautiful, well hell the world responds accordingly. Hollywood responds accordingly and thus you get Halle Berry of whom I have heard too many Blacks say is the most beautiful Black Woman in the world. Now dont get me wrong but what does it say about a people and the perception of themselves when their greatest proclaimed Black beauty actually isnt really Black. lol. DEEP. DEEP. DEEP. And racist Whites laugh at this and eat this up. The reason everything associated with White is so celebrated today is because Whites embrace unique things about being white for the sake of staying in power. I could go on with this notion but Id say go do some research and you will understand. Im curious. Has there ever been a Black Woman celebrated by the black community as a queen of beauty who wasnt mixed, looked biracial, or look like a white woman. Can you imagine if the only White women embraced by White people always tended to look black or like something else. I can tell you that will never happen for the reason of the White power structure. The standard of beauty must always reflect who is in power and remain to keep that group in power. The external embrace is a reflection of the power of its people. When a Black Woman sports flowing blonde straight hair or Blacks embrace only biracial or white looking Black Women……Is it Black Beauty that is uplifted? And whether Black men know it or not….Something us White men have always been aware of…..the embrace of a group of women uplifts the men of that group. She becomes the reflection of the greatness of the Men. Now what does it say when Black men make remarks such as “Shes pretty for a Dark Girl” or better yet exclude Dark Black Women all together.
^^^ Chuuurch
lol. To be more specific, by “chuuurch” i mean, very well said and great points. Interesting moniker! I think with all you have said though, some will concur that when making such comments it is very important to realize that it is important to get diverse opinions on said topic. Indeed, it is to be assumed that since your lady is black, she would speak for all black women. I think we have to be careful about over generalizing. I agree with a lot of points you made but will have to caution you to not over generalize.
For example, “How many Black men do you know who like Black women for who they are.”
I know tons. That statement is outlandish and unmerited. I mean, it’s like asking how many white men love white women for who they are…it’s kind of silly. last i checked there’s something called “preferences” and sometimes it has nothing to do with ethnicity or “race.” We as human beings are attracted to what we are familiar with. And there are going to be individuals who favor other traits that are “non-Afrocentric” but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they hate their own people…cmon now!
“As sad and sick as it is, I wonder if Jay Z could accept her if she chose to lose the blonde hair and go darker and more afrocentric.”
Hmmmm….
“My gear is in, and I’m in the in-crowd
And all the wavy light-skinned girls is lovin me now
My self-esteem went through the roof, man I got my swag’”
Jay-Z “December 4th”- Black Album
Are we to say Jay-Z only caters to light skinned sistas? Are we to then over generalize and say black men dont like dark skinned sistas? Or are we to simply say that Jay-Z just has a preference. The world would be so much easier to live in if we all subscribed to the latter!
“Has there ever been a Black Woman celebrated by the black community as a queen of beauty who wasnt mixed, looked biracial, or look like a white woman.”
1. Oprah
2. Mahalia Jackson
3. Angela Basset
4. Nia Long
5. Ella Fitzgerald
6. Roz Abrams
7. Jada Pinkett
I could go on but then again, your statement is skewed because you’re intimating that someone who is mixed or bi-racial has to be lighter complected. Haven’t you met darker skinned individuals who were bi-racial? Seems like you Mr. Willie have some societal constructions that need to be ironed out as well! In the sensitive discussion, it is important to stick to the real issues/points and not slide into the opinion spectrum because regardless if you’ve dated 100 black women or you’ve watched Bamboozled/School daze 50 times, you’ll still never know what it means to be a black person as I would never know what it means to be white so I would highly caution you to curtail the ellicitment certain statements.
“Now what does it say when Black men make remarks such as “Shes pretty for a Dark Girl” or better yet exclude Dark Black Women all together.”
I have a few female friends who have heard statements like that. I dont even know what to say because i’ve never really felt that or thought in that way. I mean, in that vein, what can be said about white dudes who’d rather go for Asian women? Is it to be said that they subconsciously want to dominate the stereotypically meek and lowly Asian lady? Too many stereotypes and assumptions out there. We can’t feed into everything.
Eh! this is hackneyed topic….Nevertheless, thank you for your post and comments.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt but as this is a blog full of various/diverse perspectives, it is important to be meticulous as to what kinds of information you intake. While people are entitled to respond as they see fit, some people are just plain ignorant, young, and immature. I would think that you would seek a deeper understanding of such a topic than just viewing comments left by any tom, dick, harry.
As Thesis said…Willie you are generalizing about an entire race of people based on your experiences with the black women you’ve dated. I’m not saying that this is true for every person that dates out of their race, but some people just aren’t the most credible people to talk about relationships within their own race since it could be in their best interest to down their race to their lover and make it seem like that person has something that a man/woman of their own race can’t give them. It’s like of course they’re going to tell YOU that to lower your defenses and ease some of the anxiety that might be felt from not being of the same race.
I don’t know if your woman has self-hatred issues or insecurity issues, but she has something, because saying that stuff like “black men won’t date me unless my hair straight” is just B.S. People just say stuff like that so they don’t have to deal with the real issues. I’m not saying that people don’t have their preferences, but the fact is some people know how to work it and some people don’t…regardless of what style you wear your hair, what your skin tone is, etc. I’m not trying to deny that black women who looked mixed, have lighter skin, or curly hair are probably more likely to get more play because that is the standard of beauty…but at the end of the day I just feel like it’s “so what”…eventually people grow up, mature, and start realizing that beauty is not just one thing.
The fact is, there is always something f&cked up that society tries to ram down your throat to internalize if you let it get to you. You can be down about being black, being a black woman, not having enough money, not having a nice enough car, being single…whatever. Everyone has a sob story if you ask me, so it’s all about bringing yourself up…You can let what people say, or the images in the media get to you…or you can just love yourself. It’s no coincidence that the people that love themselves are far more likely to end up getting who and what they want out of life.
Anyways to a few of your comments:
“When a Black Woman sports flowing blonde straight hair or Blacks embrace only biracial or white looking Black Women……Is it Black Beauty that is uplifted?”
The thing about black people is that we are very diverse…in skin tones, hair textures, personal styles, etc. To draw a line on what’s black and what’s not black, or what’s black enough to be a representation of black beauty is more destructive and divisive than it is enriching. Beyonce, Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Oprah Winfrey, Kerri Washington, Amerie, Mariah Carey, etc., etc. are all beautiful black women that are very different.
“How many Black men do you know who like Black women for who they are.”
That’s just ridiculous. For you to make that comment just shows how clueless you are.
” As sad and sick as it is, I wonder if Jay Z could accept her if she chose to lose the blonde hair and go darker and more afrocentric.”
Beyonce has rocked damn near every style under the sun. She’s done long, cornrows, shoulder length, tight curly, waves, straight…blonde, brown, black…and Jay-Z hasn’t left her yet. lol

All in favor say I “I”
Any oppose… “Nobody but the devil.”
I totally agree Reecie.
I like this blog more and more everyday, especially when the contributors have something to say.
I LOVED THIS SONG THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT I PLAYED IT LIKE 6 OR 7 TIMES BACK TO BACK……LOL…….I JUST FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT AND I WANTED MY BABYS DADDY TO LISTEN TO THE SONG BECAUSE IT IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL ABOUT HIM BUT HE DIDN’T AND NOW HE IS IN JAIL UNTIL JUNE 7TH AND STILL HASEN’T HEARD ‘FLAWS AND ALL’ SO I AM GOING TO WRITE DOWN THE LYRICS AND SEND THEM TO HIM!
Mahalia Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Angela Bassett , Ellah Fitzgerald. You must read my post again. I am referring to Black Women who are embraced as an EPITOME OF BEAUTY by the Black community. Get Real. Yes those are beautiful women, but are you really telling me that the Black Community bosts about their external beauty as much as Lena Horne, Halley Berry, Beyonce, Dorothy Dandridge etc. I CHALLENGE YOU. FIND ME A BLACK WOMAN WHO IS LABELED AN EPITOME OF BEAUTY WHO IS DARK SKINNED, BLACK SKINNED, ETC NOT LIGHT BROWN, NOT MED BROWN, NOT MOCHA. AND BETTER YET FIND ME ONE REVERED BY BLACK MEN AS THEIR DREAM WOMAN. ONE WHO MAKES THE MEN GO CRAZY LIKE A BEYONCE DOES TODAY AND LIKE LENA HORNE DID YESTERDAY. FIND ME ONE. Most people will speak in terms of generalization and I agree you have to be careful but let me be clear that my fiance is highly intelligent and educated. She is a professor with a major in African American Studies and Psychology. I too, am a history fanatic. Esteem issues. Are you telling me that most Black Americans like kinky or tightly curled hair. Yes….Whites dont wear natural hair either, but our hair styles still reflect Europe. And No…..Biracial looking just doesnt refer to light skin. That too is a generalization. That is why the examples where biracial, white looking, mixed looking etc. IE….Anything that doesnt look very “too” African in origin. Now come on. Are you also telling me that the average Black American idolizes African beauty or dark skin and kinky hair. I know my being a White Man may make this more intolerable to say but I think its just a reflection of denial much in the same way Blacks will say that its ok to call each other the N word to take the pain out of it. Rediculous. Its a word that was created to destroy and the tactic of taking the pain out isnt working. Take a look at the state of Black America. If its a loving word, why is it that Blacks will also use it when killing each other. Excuses! The truth is that it is a word used out of habit and many Blacks dont want to admit how ignorant it is to call each other that. The world now chants the word. Hispanics do alot of hip hop as well but I be damned if you begin to hear them call each other spics, much less promote the word across the world for the sake of a dollar. If its not working, try something else. Blacks have been calling each other the N word for a long time……the love filled word is obviously not working. No….I did not say all Blacks dont like dark skin, nor did I say that ALL Black men do not appreciate Black Women, Nor did my fiance say that a Black man would only date her if her hair was straight. You know well that too many Blacks prefer straighter hair and lighter skin. If you think that I only get this info from dating Black Women, you are clearly not aware of how often I see you guys express those views of self hate openly…..in the mall, at the work place, passing in the street, athletes and who they choose to place in their mansions, and hell the ones who do marry Black marry girls who arent far from looking White. You guys are always dogging each others hair especially a Black girl gets what you call a “kitchen”. And here is the funniest of them all “Oooh your hair is so pretty, you must have Indian in your family”. I have rarely heard of an embrace by Blacks where you make reference to the beauty being a reflection of Africa. So often I will hear someone compliment a Black Woman saying how beautiful she is or how beautiful her hair is and some Black idiot will make a statement that “she must have something in her”.
What flaws……???I mean it would be a nice song if it was coming from someone who was “all natural”…and really had flaws. Vs. Beyonce who is this gorgeous “fixed up” girl. In this song she is talking about flaws. If she really wanted 2 get the message across that she is trying to make in the song…..then she wouldn’t wear a drop of make-up…nothing airbrushed and no weave.Beyonce could actually have natural beauty, but we will never find out. When u have money, u can get anything u want done 2 alter urself. In my opinion i think she just wants props for doing a song like this…..but in reality…..They did the same thing as they do in all her other videos….”Make changes”….But otherwise i think beyonce is a very well honored woman who jus so happens 2 be successful in her career. But people need 2 realize wat is real…..& wat is just for show.
This is a cool post. How did I miss this one? A month ago no less!
Pretty nice video. Works well and everythig. Seems very personal although I do think she could have done it without waering the expencive clothes (then again… when you have money wearing 200 dollar jeans with a 50 dollar t-shirt means nothing. that is normal)
I kinda feel the video needed more direction somehow. Not as crisp as the ‘made for TV music video’ type, but it still stands out.
What’s with all the Be hating? LOL Black people in the industry for the most part wear weaves. And? Sometimes people hate for no reason. If you don’t like something then fine, but don’t make up stuff.
Willie Crow= Authority on the Black race?
Your arrogance is really quite laughable. Maybe your woman thinks all your wannabe expertise on Blackness is cute and charming, but I think it’s absurd. The more you talk, the more it makes me question what kind of black woman you really have…because I don’t see how a strong black woman with any kind of pride in her roots could stomach half the mess coming out your mouth. How are you as a white man going to sit up here and tell me as a Black woman about Blackness? As you said several times in your post, your thoughts are based on OBSERVATIONS…Blackness is not innate to you, therefore it is something you can never be an authority on. If you weren’t hell bent on proving a point that you really aren’t in a position to speak on, I would be more willing to engage in a debate with you…but all you’re doing is talking out your a$$…So please…go sell those wolf tickets somewhere else because you sound really ignorant.
“but let me be clear that my fiance is highly intelligent and educated. She is a professor with a major in African American Studies and Psychology. I too, am a history fanatic.”
But doesn’t mean she doesn’t have self-hatred issues. Again, i don’t know ole gurl like that and I hope you’re not misrepresenting her original thesis but from the way you put her out there, it does sound like she may have some issues with the way she was treated. If that is the case, you cannot look at that situation and think that all Black men treat black women in this way or that way….To even have to explain or reinforce the latter is absolutely silly.
Being a history fanatic has absolutely nothing to do with living in the shoes as a black person or being the spokesperson of…Why you would even throw that in as some merit of “i know black people” is ludicrous.
While we appreciate your posts Mr. Crow, please, for the sake of reading, put a space in between your paragraphs. It’s easier on the eyes. Merci beaucoup!
“Now come on. Are you also telling me that the average Black American idolizes African beauty or dark skin and kinky hair.”
I actually know a lot of individuals who prefer “au naturel”
And what is your definition of “the average Black American?” There are sooooooooooo many types of brothas and sistas that to even say something like that shows that your “history” lens need to be fine-tuned. There is no such thing as an Average anything. By saying the latter only gives rise to stereotypical comments that you are consistently making.
“And here is the funniest of them all “Oooh your hair is so pretty, you must have Indian in your family”. I have rarely heard of an embrace by Blacks where you make reference to the beauty being a reflection of Africa. So often I will hear someone compliment a Black Woman saying how beautiful she is or how beautiful her hair is and some Black idiot will make a statement that “she must have something in her.”
I will say that I frown upon such statements as well. I do hear where you’re coming from with that comment. I think such statements are very ignorant, condescending and do show that individuals who say such things have a lot of growing up and maturing to do.
Unfortunately I do not have much of a poignant rebuttle to alot of what you said because I’m in the office but I will say this….Reecie also intimated it as well. Regardless of what you as an individual get dished out on a daily basis…..regardless of the stereotypes, the media images, etc….regardless of any of that, you have to love you. You have to appreciate you. You have to be proud of you. People who are not in the black community will get tastes of ignorant comments and believe all black people feel that way. Willie, the fact that you feel all black people feel a certain way about hair, skin color, etc…proves to me that you haven’t been around a diverse amount of individuals who are confident in who they are despite societal constructions and societal stereotypes.
“I CHALLENGE YOU. ONE WHO MAKES THE MEN GO CRAZY LIKE A BEYONCE DOES TODAY AND LIKE LENA HORNE DID YESTERDAY.”
Really though, what is your point?
Willie, you’ve said a lot of stuff and while some are relevant and teeter along lines of issues that we all have to be aware of, i still dont know what you’re really trying to say/prove. Your thesis is all over the place and is very emotion-driven and not exact on what you truly feel is the problem. Maybe i missed it but i’ll take a lot of what you said as a rant and nothing more than that. That being the case, you have every right to say as you feel but doesn’t make it justified, valid, or merited.
Now I don’t know your wifey but when you wrote, “Shes also talked about her once need to keep her hair straight in order to be attractive to a Black Man,” that automatically shows that she has/had issues with her own attractiveness. That could have caused by society/men/etc….but no one needs to define your own beauty. Black men will have preferences, white men will have preferences, SHYT….men have certain preferences….does that mean that women need to start bleaching their skin or tanning their skin? I mean give me a break?
Willie-
and while i am not in the nature of throwing proverbial jabs, you speak much on what black men do and what black women go through and all the hurt they have experienced but I find it interesting that in this whole series of skin color and acceptable features, you did not once bring up what white women are doing to be more “ethnic!” There isn’t just an issue with black people Willie…There’s an issue across the board. Let’s not be simple and microscopic with said topics….let’s be real and recognize that everyone has problems…it’s up to us as individuals to love ourselves and not be part of the vicious cycle!
im gettin tired of beyonce she like in the top to much. AND NO IM NOT HATIN ON HER its just shes always on top IKNO SHE HAS TO MAKEA livein but she got JAYZ CEO OF DEF JAM RECORDS!!!! SHE DONT EVEN GOTTA WORKK THE SONG IS OKAY UT THE VIDEO MAKES HER L00K LIKE DRUGGY
Oh there blacks go being in denial about the situation.
Willie Crow is telling it like it is. I am black, I am in Africa. I am proud of my blackness and my roots. I have a brain, I’m aware, blah blah. I HAVE A WEAVE. I prefer myself with a weave on. I look better with it, I can manage my hair better when it’s straight. The only thing about it is - I am not trying to do white. I am trying to do me, only better (ACCORDING TO ME) and less time in the morning, and absolutely NO PAIN!!!
And the sad truth is I find that I get MORE attention weaved than I do anything else. From black men.
Many of my friends have weaves, many of them have dreadlocks, but you are not able to tell me that my dreadlocked friend is more “conscious” or more African than my friend with relaxed hair, or that blacks have identity issues because of hairstyle choices. I beg to differ, in fact I don’t beg - I just differ.
It’s okay for an african to think indian is beautiful. It’s okay for white to think tan is beautiful, it’s ok for black men to have opinions/preferences on what they think is attractive. And so it goes with women. I am African and I think some of the most beautiful women are Brazilian. Mind you, I don’t want to be them.
I HAtE HER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love her! and I love Beyonce’s clothing line beyonce dereon fashion clothes line. She looks so sexy and hot!
I totally agree with what willie crow said. I am a black woman, and he is completely right. Black men don’t love natural black women enough. I felt pressured to relax my hair in order to be accepted by black men, but my (Hispanic) husband loves my natural hair and accepts me as I am. Most black men I knew from the past pressured me to straighten it, but there were a few who provided encouragement.
First of all, Beyonce is a beautiful girl, she is very talented. Almost everyone on this website is saying she is over-rated, but who in the entertaining business is not over-rated; especially when your hands are in everything. Beyonce’s name is going to be around, because she does alot of things; but what’s wrong with that. How i see it is if you don’t like her, or tired of seeing her; you don’t have to watch or listen to her. I’m not ridin her but you have to give credit where it’s do, the girl is bad, she is hot; nice body, great face and her hair always look good, weave and all. I think alot of people are just hatin on her, half of the time people just have to make some kind of comment about her, even if they just have to sit up and talk about her wearing a weave, which i think is very stupid and immature; i say if it looks good and she is rockin it well, girl do want you do. I wear weaves sometime, because they give you a different look, and i really do like them; and my real hair comes to the middle of my back. It seem’s like people only have comments to make when a black women wear weave like it’s so bad, and she is so fake; but alot of people don’t reliaze how many white and latino women in the industry is rockin weaves, almost all of them. Anyways enough about the hair, i say beyonce or any other entertainer does not owe us anything but good music and that is it. What i do really like about her is that she is very private, and don’t have all of her personal business in the media. I’m pretty sure she does not care what you people think about what she is wearing or how she choose to fix her hair. What is over-rated is these little white girls in the industry, who is getting into trouble every single day, with their drug use and drinking and driving, and rehab; now that is over-rated, and is getting very old. Now them girls are not doing anything with their lives, but screwing it up. To beyonce you are beautiful, yes you look like yor mother, i would hope you do since she is your mother; that’s for someone who made that stupid ass comment, keep doing yo thang, going stupid doo doo dum on them, making them hate even more. Just had to keep it real, the girl is bad, and if you say other wise, you hatin; just face it, it’s ok.
interesting
i love this song and video also but i rekon that the dj ricky worden remix of it is much better
When I first heard the song I fell in love with it instantly. It’s so raw and real. HOWEVER, the video is FAKE and breaks my heart. She’s way too rehearsed, it’s not natural, and what’s sad is it’s not necessary—this song is just about getting out of bed and now wearing make-up…. very simple. That’s what everybody wanted to see, that’s what the lyrics say.
I know B is a virgo, I’m one as well and virgos by nature are perfectionist. What she needs to understand is a true artists turns their imperfections into art. This whole perfection image, is impersonal and NOT REAL. More importantly, it’s not her. Nobody is perfect, that’s what the song is about, yet her makeup remains flawless throughout the video (even the messed up hair scenes are perfect).
Her only song that is not tainted is that ‘Wishing on A Star Ballad’ she sang live a while ago (produced by Jamille Luney). For all of you that are heart broken go listen to that ballad she did. There is a real women under all that make-up who is MORE beautiful then the one we see in the magazines and videos. We’re pulling for you Bee.
i am tired of her, she is everywhere , but it’s not her fault, white people have been doing this to us forever, the fact is , the only reason she is so successsful is because she is lightskinned and shake her ass, sex sells, black men obviously cater more to lighter skinned blacks , just face reality people and stop being in denial, the only reason she is famous at all is because she is lighter, some might say alicia keys is light skinned but alicia keys doesn’t have to shake her ass to get recognized, she is talented, that’s raw talent. But of couse alicia is not as controversial as beyonce, Alicia can sit at a piano and sing a song about issues that matter, but beyonce has to be too sexy , because she is trying to emulate a sexy provocative image because she knows that sells,To me in my opinion, alicia keys is prettier in the face than miss knowles but like i said sex sells, so having a pretty face and keeping your clothes on is not good enough in hollywood. This type of image sickens me, to me beyonce is creative, she’s herself , but just a beautiful girl who can shake her ass very well and that is considered talent these days. I agree with Wilie 100% because alot of black men do this to us black women, i am brown skinned complected and i have never had an issue with my complection but once had this darkskinned black man tell me “you know, i usually don’t like girls your complection, but you are very pretty, your an exception”, as if he was saying your skin color is hideous but you are beautiful, wtf? as if that was supposed to be a compliment.I wasn’t at all gracious about that ignorant ass comment, and i took that to offense, now don’t get me wrong i never said and neither has willie said that all blacks think this way , but you cannot deny that a vast majority do think that way and it’s sad.
I am a white man and i have to agree with what willie is saying and it’s not because he’s white, it’s just that yes beyonce is beautiful but she doesn’t look african at all and so alot of black women may feel that they cannot relate to her,in america the white man does possess this image of beauty that constitutes only to their standard of what beauty is, and ofcourse it is a standard of beauty to a fellow white woman, but like willie said it’s just to keep the white man in power , the white man knows that if you dominate a race and brainwash them they are programmed to think and produce more “white looking” people on this planet same applies for when the black man actually believes that white women are deemed ” more beautiful”,that black man is programmed by fear and wanting to survive and get higher in life ,so he naturally runs into the arms of white women, POINT BLANK.
Do you white people realize not all black people have african roots?????
