Joss Stone Disses R&B Chicks

Apparently Joss Stone has the mistaken impression that having a No. 2 album on the Billboard 200 chart makes her some kind of authority on the state of R&B music. In an interview with Giant Magazine, Joss Stone criticizes R&B singers today as “highly paid strippers”. First…I’m going to need to remind her that she is bucky naked in her album cover and inside album artwork all over a bucky naked man. Granted she has body paint all over her…but that doesn’t make much of a difference. Second, I’m going to need someone who just got put all on blast for f&cking for tracks, to keep her mouth shut about anybody else’s scruples in the industry. Third, I’m going to need her to get the memo that she is not R&B, she’s just a girl who swagger jacks soul music. But I digress…she also apparently has beef with Christina Milian (who dated Stone’s ex-boyfriend Beau Dozier).

EURweb has the story:

While Stone had some harsh criticism for today’s crop of R&B singers, her most scathing words were saved specifically for singer-actress Christina Milian, who just so happens to be the ex-girlfriend of her ex-boyfriend, Beau Dozier.

When Christina Milian’s name came up in conversation, Stone, according to writer Aliya S. King, “doesn’t bother to hide her disdain for the woman who Dozier, now Stone’s ex-boyfriend, once dated.” Stone told King: “I could tell you some stories about her… ,” then launched into a “profanity-laced tirade against the pop star.”

King writes: “After I point to my tape recorder, reminding her that she’s on record, Stone doesn’t quit. Instead, she continues to go off on Milian and, even worse, Milian’s mother. ‘I’m just honest,’ Stone concludes with a shrug.”

“Christina has never met Joss,” Milan’s publicist responds. “She can’t imagine what this is all about.”

Now…although one can argue that a lot of R&B singers dress provocatively for their stage shows or videos, or even dance provocatively…calling them “high paid strippers” is definitely a stretch. And nobody bares their assets more than the likes of Christina Aguilera’s and Britney Spears…so for her to be speaking on R&B is out of pocket. Anyways…all I have left to say about Joss Stone is simply this, “Hoe sit down!”

So what do you think about Joss Stone criticizing R&B singers? How catty is it to trash talk Christina Million because she dated Joss Stone’s ex? Isn’t Joss a hypocrite for calling R&B singers highly paid strippers, when she’s damn near naked on her cd?

  1. What a bitch. She’s not even that good.

  2. I don’t really care for Joss Stone one way or the other, but I’ll second her in saying that female R&B singers are lame right now. I haven’t bought a CD, or downloaded a song by a female R&B singer in ages, and be ages I mean about two or three years. They all sing the same exact song over and over.

And don’t even get me started on Beyonce. She sounds like she’s trying to push a 5 lb turd out her ass when she’s singing.

There are a lot of words who have different meanings to different people, being thrown around. For one, I don’t consider what Joss Stone calls “R&B singers” R&B, but pop stars. And I don’t think that sex is necessarily a bad thing about what makes an artist an artist. I mean can you imagine if Aretha Franklin came with Christian Milan’s body.

I don’t understand how anybody can criticize anybody else for being beautiful or sexy. If Joss Stone would have concentrated her verbal insults on Milan’s limited vocal range and song content, then maybe I would be on her side. Or even the fact that Joss Stone consistently out sells every other R&B chick. (She is going to break 10 million sold with this 3rd album of hers) All things that I would agree with that makes Joss Stone a better artist. But don’t criticize somebody just because they are beautiful.

As for Stone “swagger jacking soul music”, comon, that isn’t really giving her credit for some really amazing music that ranges from classic blues to modern day hip-hop.

Another cliche dissing other artist for being to sexy. In my opinion the only artist who can get away with saying stuff like this are artist like Mary J Blige, Keyshia Cole, Macy Gray and so on. At the sametime what do you people expect people like Beyonce to do when they make a video to a song that is obviously supposed to be a steamy, sexy, shake your booty type song like Beautiful liar. If Beyonce made that type of video for a song like Listen then I would see her point. I think Joss Stone is soulful but I guess it is easy to get away with calling a white R&B artist like Joss Stone or Robin Thick unsoulful or not real R&B. I wonder if I could get away saying that about a similar black artist.

  3. Ain’t this the same girl who just got dragged through the tabloids over some nonsense with Dallas Austin? You think people would learn that they shouldn’t run their mouths like this…but then again, I guess beef sells records.

HMMM,this is the girl who posed for press last week,in a pose letting the world see right up her skirt!!
this is the girl who has based her whole album promo on making a fool of her ex [Beau],and slagging him un-necessarily
This is the girl who slagged Dallas Austin [and he responded],slagged Britney and Paris lately too!!
This is the girl who’s own family consists of a mother who ran off with her drummer,an armed robbing drug addicted brother, and a kid brother who is a drunken brawler!!
Then we have Ms weed smoker herself, who beeps for tracks [and Dallas didnt apologize for WHAT he said, only for saying it on web]

Sounds to me like Stone is jealous of Milian, and the fact that Milian and Dozier have not said negative about each other publically..but stone feels need to bash them both!!!!

Btw,stone and her #2 album..her half price at most major outlets cd,and on sale 2 days before its official release at Target cd!!..ppl need to rem another BRIT SOUL SINGER far more important that Stone…SADE,the lady who released 6 albums in usa,and went top 10 will all of them, inc a #1 with Promise [also #1 on singles charts a few times too]
SAde sold 20 million in usa alone [50 million worldwide] without comprimising her sound or look, and not flaunting herself like a Ho [like stone].She achieved all that at a time when soul/rnb/jazz was not the moneyspinning genre it is today

  4. What’s so bad about making songs dissing your ex? Justin Timberlake did it and sold millions. Hell, his current single is still about Brit Brit.

  5. I wish more British wiggers would call out the R&B singers they steal from, ungratefull swagger jacker.

She needs to shut her drugged up mouth this stone
Sleeping with producers is her thing, she slept with Beau and dumped him when she got his tracks..he then wrote a track for her new album, once she got it,she swindled him out of cash by giving the song to Saadiq to re-do
Then as Dallas told u,she slept with Novel, dumped him when she got his tracks, and then tried to give them to Saadiq [by Novel didnt allow it]

Lets all be for real. Joss is mad at Christina Milian for stealing Beau Dozier from her. Christina is beautiful and Joss is an ugly, foul mouthed swagger jackin english whore. I read an interview with Dozier and he wont even admit that he fucked Joss because she is so ugly. Milian and Dozier look great together. He is so handsome, way too handsome for that disgusting Stone in my opinion

I have no idea what this infatuation with white singers who appear to have a soulful voice is all about. I can name about ten singers out right now that have a far better voice than Joss, and one of them is Jeniffer Hudson. That girl can blow Joss and Christina Alguilera out the water. Man, I never give too much credit to these white artists because a lot of them do not deserve it. The problem is they need black producers and such to give them that soulful sound that they know they cannot achieve on their own with white producers even if they tried. I think I am just tired of my beautiful soul sisters who can SING not getting any airplay, because they make music I can feel. They make music I can listen to all day long like Tamia. Her new album is awesome. She can sing better than Joss too. Joss is overrated, and no she does not have a soulful voice to me. She just doesn’t. What she also said about Christina Millian made me even lose more respect for this girl. She has major issues, and to be honest she looks like the true stripper to me. And to top it all off, the girl is on top of a black man whom are both naked as hell. Tell me who the hypocrite is here? This girl is always walking around barefoot talking about how she has much respect for soul music, yet sounds anything but. Yes she does need to sit down, and the men involved with this childish little girl need to be smacked. She needs to look within herself and figure out why she is constantly fooling around with men old enough to be her brother or father. This girl has a lot of growing up to do. I am so glad I just downloaded her album, because buying from an artist with an attitude like that is not my style. If they are cocky, arrogant, and push sales by downing others I refuse to buy their music no matter the color. If you are offended that’s your problem. I refuse to jump on the “worship all whites who front like they have soul” bandwagon. It is not happening. Not now not ever. Why would I anyway, when there are so many black neo-soul artists I can continue to love musically? Gotta love my brothas and sistas in the industry. I gotta.

Joss Stone has some nerve putting down black artists when she is a white artist who is trying to appeal to black audiences by performing her version of so-called soul music. However, this is a reminder to black producers, black directors and other black people in the music industry that when you permit white people into our culture musically, spiritually and politically, these same white people will turn around and use your culture against you then try to profit from music historically created and performed by blacks. A word to the wise, black people: watch your back. As for Joss Stone, you look stoned.

  6. how in the world did her words get screwed up as RACIST.. if Milian was Brit Spears.. she wuld have said the same thing.. ALWAYS REMEMBER PPL… there is always two sides, so milian culd have did something that her PUBLICIST doesnt kno.. come on.. ur mother doesnt kno everything u do, does she? Yea.. think about that!

I guess having the No.2 hit album is not enough- just singing is not enough anymore.
But hey guess she’s “got the right to be wrong”

    Lyrics by Joss Stone
I’ve got a right to be wrong
My mistakes will make me strong
I’m stepping out into the great unknown
I’m feeling wings though I’ve never flown
I’ve got a mind of my own
I’m flesh and blood to the bone
    I’m not made of stone
Got a right to be wrong
    So just leave me alone

first: joss sounds awesome: her voice and music. (to the producers who claim to have been jacked, boo hoo, prove it, lyin’ losers)
second: i bet 99% of these comments are not written by anyone of european descent, meaning, you have african heritage.
third: soul music does not belong to one race, music is beautiful. who’s talking about looks, i thought this was about music.(besides, the whoevers who are hating are probably the ugly ones)
fourth: turn on *BET* and come back and tell me noone on there looks like a straight up hoodrat hoe around the corner (don’t tell me: “It’s not hoe-ish, it’s beautiful” = BS)
fifth: to the hater “Werdz” - “..girl has a lot of growing up to do. I am so glad I just downloaded her album…”

haters are dissing her all the while listening to her music also. LOL>>>>>

One: Joss Stone has an amazing voice, so give credit when credit is due & in the US her first two albums sold very well.
Two: Her album cover is a art form.. more sensual than sexual.
3: [4 Twisted Grace] Im thrown off by your comments?.. they weren’t putting a color on the music, but her style is usually more with the SOULFUL crowd usually african americans. &&& you can turn to MTV .. & VH1 and see some of the same things, don’t try and put BET on blast. But I do agree about the haters dissin her, while playin her music in the background!

The highly sexual presentation of R&B artists particularly female is undeniable. If one was to compare a live performance from Joss stone with that of the popular ‘R&B’ artists of today there is no doubt that they are compensating for their lack of individuality and weak voices with sexual promescuity.
The modern depiction of R&B (something like this- http://www.mixtapetorrent.com/files/rnbmodels5.jpg) undeniably uses girls in Gstrings and push up bras that are obviously meant to insinuate sex. This, as opposed to the psychedelic body art of joss stone, has the sex as the only purpose.
Taking away the paint and putting clothes like a bra and mini skirt on Joss in this picture, though she would be wearing more clothes, would be far more inapropriate as it takes away the art of the picture and instead depicts someone who just looks like a slut.
The difference between the images of artists is not as simple as the amount of clothes present, but rather the implications!
I believe people these days don’t really understand what R&B is, as its not just a slow song with a sad gangsta

i’m a huge fan of Joss Stone. i may not agree with every statement that comes out of her mouth, but i certainly give her the right to freedom of speech. every artist has “trash talked” other artists. the only difference this time is that she chose to have it in print. and if that’s her opinion then let her have at it. what’s the big deal? and no one can sit there and tell me that you haven’t bad mouthed you boyfriend/girlfriend’s ex’s. if you haven’t, then you’re lying. i know i have. it just comes naturally and it’s just good fun. next someone will be critisizing Joss for not wearing shoes when she performs. leave her alone and stop bitching about silly things. the woman can sing, she’s smart and she’s got more class than most other R&B and pop singers out there and that’s all i care about.

STOP BEING SO DAMN MEAN!!! Give her music a chance and if you are a real fan of good music you will stop talkin shit I promise…..no you wont cus your sad sad people who have noting better to do!!

Oh wait….also I think yall are madd cus she is naked with Saadiq in that pic!! Awww Jungle Feaver…its a beautiful thing!!

  8. First off, I think what Joss Stone meant by the term ‘highly paid strippers’, is the fact that most R&B singers today are degrading ‘R&B-Soul music’. Changing it, filling it with curse words and explicit circumstances (as appose to what the song is about)-rather to what R&B-Soul music originally was depicted back in the 80’s perhaps; where this kind of music was about love and good times, and the song situations (story line) were expressed unexplicitly. If you listen to Joss Stone’s music, you’ll find that it has a R&B-Soul, 80’s groove to it. However, Joss Stone has no right degrading other R&B singers as her quote ”highly paid strippers”. Especially due the fact that (to be blunt) she’s white-which may be the main reason why many people would take her comment highly offensive. According to the free constitution, everyone has the right to make his or her music the way they please. Last, but not least I would like to say fuck off you racists, R&B music does not sound the same nor do the singers. Perhaps some advice, direct your angry, hatefulness toward something negative-yet unnecessary that’s happening in the world and/or in your life.

  9. This is all just blog bull shit. Joss Stone is UK’s soul talent, and has become an American mess up, if she stayed in the UK she would never have met any crazy American’s anyway and stayed hippy and flower power Joss Stone we saw her at the beginning.

Racial judgement on the producers is totally bull shit too because I’m a white soul producer, and I’m sure if Salaam Remi or Raphael Saadiq read any of this blog bull shit they’d think everyone was crazy, who even gives a shit about negative beef. Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse are THE best female singers around at the moment taking the world by storm.

There is no denying it, Joss Stone is a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice, and it’s plain to see unless you are blind and deaf, but if that isn’t the case, come on, be honest…

I am not completely on her side though, before reading the responses to this post I had no idea she smoked weed, said anything offensive toward Christina Milian or about this guy she was dating. All I knew about her was that, basically, she’s a good looking girl with natural talent who happened to turn into a pretentious, air-headed twat.

A lot of people could interpret her new image, album art and music as ‘arty’ and ’sensual’ and insist it has some deep, underlying message but, in my opinion, it’s purely self-indulgent.

As for some of the posts on here, insisting that she is a stupid, English, white girl trying to ’steal’ R&B and Soul that, according to yous guys, BELONGS to the black population of singers, I say it’s stupid, although I will not attempt to defend Joss Stone, I will say that it is her choice to interpret the music in the way that she wants, I think she did a good job on most of her songs, I have yet to listen to one I can’t tolerate and will continue to say she has an amazing, undeniable raw talent.

I would like to point out the amount of studio editing that goes into some R&B tracks nowadays, and the fact that, if you were to listen to some of the so-called ‘artists’ in today’s charts singing without back-ups, instrumental, or editing, you wouldn’t be so quick to defend their ‘original style and talent’.

Also, Joss Stone’s music is unmistakably original, compared to so many other tracks and albums you are trying to defend, so, while I still do agree that Joss Stone has a tendency of talking out of her arse at the best of times, people claiming that she is ’stealing’ that style is nothing short of ridiculous.

I agree it sounds like I’m defending Joss Stone, but I stick by the fact that she is a hypocrite and needs to step back and look in the mirror before slanting every other person who just so happens to cross her path.

  10. What! Don’t let me lmao @t this ugly ass ill-shaped hefer!

I never liked that ugly bitch in the first place, and I always wondered why black people gave that wana be R and B
Hefer, any credit in the first place.
Our culture is too quit to embrace another artist from another culture and say that they are true r and b artists just because they have one crappy supposedly r and b hit!

Stone ant nothing but a trailer trash whore and she needs to go the fuck back to England where her dumb racist ass belongs!

And No,trust me.Ant nobody jealous of Stone, because she’s one UGLY looking funky bitch!
And further more, all them “so-called good” looking, black men are only fucken her because she’s paying them to,period!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh will you people just give me a break! And by you people I mean WHITE…simply because I am tired. Well this may be a tad bit late or even more. I really don’t want to make this a long essay or story. But if it so happens to push on, don’t read it please. Really I have the tendency to drag on. I am really tired(literally) it’s to late for me to be typing, but who cares. I was hearing that some red head soul singer was dating Nelly, so I googled it. I came across this, and I have to tell you I am so excited I did. Give credit where credit is due people…don’t be hasty. It’s like our own Black people can’t give our own culture prompts any more. I am hearing hood rats-bet-hood. I mean come on, is it like that. For you to sit up here and trash talk your own race of people. Willingly put up some white person, like she needs our help. OMG like she’s already white, with a black voice. Why does she need us to stick up for her?. Dumb black people will still go and buy her album, white people will crown her, and the wanna-be whites will bow down to her feet. Not to mention the in betweens they will do all in more!. It’s the perfect crime-oops I mean plan. A white trailer trash (can’t say that white people might hang me, and blacks may not want to take my side- I mean white respected soul singer singing her heart out and making art…with beautiful black men. It’s like I was born yesterday, and slavery was never introduced. As wacky as this whole story seems to play out. It’s even wackier or tackier which ever one you prefer. That we got our own black bros and sis on here defending some white chick. Like their is no sense left in their brain. STOP DEFENDING WHITE PEOPLE, the news articles already do it enough. As for this whole spiel, it’s very ignorant of her. It is highly expected, what did we think she was going to stay silent for long. Did we think her devil side will just disappear. Yes we did, why because we always get comfortable with white take-over’s. That’s how slavery started in the first place. Letting white men shush us. Let Them take over everything, and we just shut-up. Point of the matter is She’s white, who gave her the right to even talk. Forget about her art and her voice. If she didn’t have that voice and music in the first place black men wouldn’t fall for her. So spear me will you. Every White person in the industry is trying to have a black appeal, and take credit for it. Its reality people, and I just smacked all of you closed minded people in the face with it. Art or no Art her private is in a black mans private, he appears to be looking down at her leg. She appears to be looking into the camera. This picture is screaming out desperate porn poster that didn’t quite make the cut for playboys cover. Because Kim kardiwhore and Reggie bush already won first place. Do all of a favor joss… cover up, take the black men’s privates out your hole, and get a new life. One where it doesn’t consist of taking 40 year old black men and turning them into porn stars. Proclaiming it to be art. RS you should be married to a queen(BLACK), and you should also be ashamed of yourself. You know years down the line joss will look back at this cover go to court buy a lawyer and then you will be in jail taking pictures, making song with men’s booty cheeks. All she will be doing is sipping lemonade and crying RAPE RAPE, shopping in Paris with your money. And that my friend, That’s how all white stars are born! Once again gaining from the black culture. Date Responsibly. White people should come with warning signs.

ASAP-WHITE GIRLS THEIR ARE PLENTY OF SINGLE WHITE MEN IN THE OCEAN,SEA,LIQUOR STORES,MAGAZINES,INDUSTRY,INTERNET…GO GET THEM.

My whole feeling towards this blog…to sum it up. Joss needs to be swept up and thrown away. Pot heads need not be free rather they should be locked up in rehab. hint Amy Wine head! Sad news. The worst is yet to come.

  11. @t Askrealblacksisters19:
I stand up and applaud you,for not being scared to speak the truth!!!!!
I agree with you. And to take it a step further, let me just say, that a lot of black men, nowadays are brainwashed, into thinking, that White women are better than us.And also that we are not deserving as much as they are .That’s pure bs if you ask me!!!
A lot of these, black men, that break their neck,to stick up for these white women, only do so,because that’s all they know.(Date, for those who don’t get what I was saying)

Ps: keep speaking the truth, my sister! God bless.
