Someone’s Going to Hell

The Catholic League for Religious & Civil Rights has spoken out against Miramax Studios for releasing a gorey slasher flick about a psycho who terrorizes college girls during the Holidays on Christmas Day.
President of the league, Bill Donohue, had this to say about the timing of the release of the flick:
“Even in Hollywood, a town where bashing Christians is sport and Catholics are the target of choice, the Weinsteins stand out…It is not uncommon for theaters to host dark comedies or tearjerkers . . . but when it comes to blood-and-gore flicks, they never open on Christmas Day - unless, of course, the men behind the movie are Harvey and Bob Weinstein.”
Personally, I’m all for freedom of speech and artistic expression, but damn can people exercise a little bit of decency? The moral fabric of this country is so pathetic that people would actually release a holiday pyscho slasher movie on Christmas Day. That’s just outrageous. I’m a big fan of horror films, but they could’ve shown an ounce of sensitivity about incorporating a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus into the plot of the movie and then releasing it on that holiday.
What do you guys think…is this completely inappropriate and disrespectful…or do you see nothing wrong with it?

You kind of expect a movie like this to be release around this time period just like the way they release a Halloween movie on Halloween or the Omen on 6/6/06. But hey this holiday season you have pretty option for a horror movie like this or to movies like Rocky Balboa, Dreamgirl, and pursiut of happyiness.
Isn’t this movie a remake of the 1974 “Black Christmas”? I wonder if that movie was realeased on christmas and in ‘06 this is just another example of religious conservatisim.
Damn, I can’t believe anybody would have a problem with this.
Guess just shows how PC and religious right this country has gone. Liberals and Christian Conservatives are just different sides of the same coin.
I know this is off subject but did you hear about James Brown. I was shocked I remember hearing about him being taken to the hospital made they release a statement saying that he should be back on his feet in no time.
I don’t see that a movie like this needs to be made at any time. But then I am probably a bit of an old fart really. Joking aside, releasing it on Christmas Day just shows how far away from respect for the Christian religion America has gone. It seems it is fine to shoq respect for, and accept the lifestyles and cultures of any other religion, but once it’s Christianity trying to stand up for itself then we’re all evil bigoted racists.
But that’s just my point of view, clearly, and I am so off to write a whole blog to bitch about this. Cheers for the thought.
wasn’t this movie released before in the 60s on Christmas?
I’m sorry but I don’t see a problem with this at all.
A) Most people don’t have any idea why Christmas is even celebrated. It is a Christian adoptation of the Roman celebration, Saturnalia and originally that’s it.
B) Most experts agree that Jesus was born any where from mid February to early March, but definitely not December 25th.
C) Finally, it obvious that releasing such a thing on Christmas is an intentional gimmick. It’s not meant to be offensive insomuch as it’s trying to attract attention to itself. It’s not disrespectful but rather it’s using the contrast between itself and the holiday tradition to draw in the rebel crowd. The creators clearly don’t mean to take such a thing seriously, I don’t understand why should we?
I was mostly offended that the movie was stupid. That was about it.
why are christians acting like they are being opressed? it’s not like they have been constantly persecuted for their beliefs, they have always been the ones who persecute others and they always bitch and whine. shut up (to the christian leader) you guys own this country and then you act like you’re a target, last time i checked, it was the christians who have killed jews, muslims, etc for their beliefs, not the other way around. it’s a movie just get over it.
Oh, and did not know about it. Thanks for the information …
Personally I agree with theCritic, the Christians hijacked the holiday in the first place so they shouldn’t really be offended. I think there is still too much respect for Christianity but I’m sure we’ll grow out of it in time. It does look a crappy movie though.
