Ludacris Gets Deep…For Once

Ludacris switches gears with his new video for Runaway Love, featuring Mary J. Blige. Instead of the playful rhymes we’re used to him spitting, he delivers powerful storytelling about the trials of young girls. Although part of me wants to dog him for talking about b’s and hoes in every other song, then turning around and trying to deliver a heartfelt message to girls in trouble…I can’t help but give him credit for coming out with a mature and sincere song. Mary J. sounds fantastic on the song. The video is super depressing, but it features superb acting (I know that sounds like an exaggeration but watch) by Akeelah & the Bee star, Keke Palmer.

  1. Wow… On first listen of “Release Therapy” this was a track that stood out to me and damn the video is amazing. I didn’t think that Luda would release a track like this as a single, but I’m proud of him for doing it. The first abusive man in the video is Michael Rapaport who used to be on Boston Public and now has his own comedy called The War at Home. You are right, the video is very sobering, but it’s great that Luda was able to show that his style has never been inside a box, and really he can tackle any type of subject matter there is. Wow.

I guess when it comes to having a successful rap album you have to have a track that is a club banger, a song for the ladies, and a serious song. Look at TI for example.

    First single: What you know.

    Second Single: Why you wanna

Third Single: Live in the sky

It doesn’t have to be in that order.
